Ron Vlaar and Joe Cole are both in contention for this weekend's clash with Chelsea.

Villa face the Blues on Saturday, with a 3pm kick-off.

Vlaar and Cole could both feature against Jose Mourinho's side if they come through their final training session on Friday.

Vlaar has been out for over a month with a knee problem picked up a quarter of an hour into the New Year's Day draw with Crystal Palace.

Cole was absent from the Bournemouth and Arsenal clashes with a hamstring issue.

Meanwhile, there was also a positive update on Philippe Senderos and Libor Kozak, with both continuing their rehab with running sessions.

Paul Lambert said: "Ron has trained this week. We will see how he is tomorrow.

"But you must remember than Ron hasn't played for a long time.

"However, if he comes through tomorrow, he will be in the squad.

"Joe has trained this week. We will see how he is tomorrow too.

"Those two lads are looking pretty good. They are getting there.

"Everyone else is not too bad."

Senderos has been out since November 2014 with a calf problem picked up on international duty with Switzerland.

On Senderos, he continued: "He has started running. Hopefully there's no adverse reaction."

Kozak has been battling hard to get back fit since he broke his leg in January 2014.

On Kozak, he added: "Libor is doing well. He is doing well with his rehab.

"He is out there running. But it's too early for him."

Doesnt look like Vlaar will be starting based on that, in ahead of Baker on the bench it looks.
