It was nice to shut the f.....g media up as they'd been banging on all week about how we were going to get caned by free scoring Bournemouth .

I think our supporters were more certain we'd lose than the media were.

Quite. I was one of them! Bournemouth are a good side, and we were perhaps fortunate that they played a weakened side.

Their manager said that he had no qualms about his team selection as he feels they're as good as his league team, so didn't class it as a weakened team.
On MotD they backed this up by saying that, unlike other promoted teams, they have a big squad and wouldn't need to add numbers if/when they get promoted.

Reading their forums, the Bournemouth fans were completed pissed off, having traveled up in their thousands only to see their Reserve team put out. What was it, eight or nine changes? Their manager can say what he wants but he's put a lot of pressure on himself to get a result this Friday to justify the sacrifice.

Didn't he make some of the changes in light of losing to DirtyLeeds in the previous match?

He did yes . Plus that "weakened" side (or a good few of them) had despatched Rotherham away 5-1 in The 3rd Rd.

And dumped the baggies out of the league cup

I'm not sure about that.  I can see why they are doing well in the Championship, but feel they would need significant upgrades in certain areas if they were to come up.

You're probably right, they would probably need tweeking up in areas, but, I think MotD were probably more on about just bulking up wholesale.

Leicester romped to the title last season and they're quite easily the worst side in the league. You need Premier League quality players to stay in this division. Leciester have one, maybe another if this Croat is up to much and that's not enough, which is why they will be relegated.

Have Bournemouth got enough at the moment? probably not.

That's not the point though, the point is quite often a team comes up with 14-15 players who are top of the championship level and then filler, bournemouth have 20+ players in that category so 3-4 good signings and they'll have a squad capable of making a good go of staying up, most sides need that and then another 3-4 squad filler players.  From what I've seen of Bournemouth I'm with MotD on this, they're a stronger squad than you normally see coming up.  Let's not forget, they were well in the game until Gil scored his wonder goal, even with 8-9 players left out.

I understood the point, I just don't see how having 20 players who aren't Premiership quality instead of 15 makes any difference.

We bossed the second half, even before we'd scored, having been awful in the first. They created a single clear cut chance in 90 minutes before Clark switched off after the game had been long won in the 93rd. Fine margins and all that, but Premier League quality they aint.

I would fully expect that if Bournemouth did get promoted that they would be the hot favorutites to come straight back down. It's one thing raising your game for the odd match. Quite another to be considers PL quality over an entire season.
