Even David Bleat on R5 suggesting it was good for Villa as we would get more money for him couldn't depress me.  He is a bellend of the highest order

Probably the daftest notion is Collymore saying he'll go anyway in the summer.  Anyone who reads his statement knows that isn't going to happen unless we get relegated.  Let's hope that won't be the case.

He already plays for a massive club, he will be earning a big wage, he is seemingly about to become an England regular, Man City or Chelsea aren't interested so he's not going to be missing out on league titles or European cups, while Man United and Arsenal didn't want him either, so he's not missing out on Europe.

Why bother going to Spurs or Liverpool then? Especially if you enjoy where you are. Good lad Delph.

The Mirror look rather foolish now.

They aren't the only ones.

James Nursey posted the team news up before the game yesterday on twitter with the headline 'No Delph'. Typical shoddy villa bashing journalism from him really.

I'm buzzing about this, it really feels like it could give the club the club a momentum shift. It's a big fuck you to those lining up to have a pop.

This doesn't happen any more. Quality players leave clubs when they've been on their arse like we have for a good while, especially when they can walk off to their pick of clubs offering vast sums in exchange for no transfer fee.

I'd like to buy that man a drink. Regardless of what happens in the future I'll remember that when we were at our lowest ebb, he stuck by us.

The Daily Express reacted to Collymore's comments with the headline:

Fabian Delph WILL join Arsenal, Tottenham or Liverpool in the summer

I agree. It looks as though he is just trying to get people talking, to be honest. Otherwise it's a very cynical interpretation, given Delph's statement.

May as well post it here as well.

Quote
Paul Lambert says Fabian Delph is a future captain of Villa.

Delph signed a new four-and-a-half year deal in claret and blue over the weekend.

And, at 25-years-old, the midfielder is entering the peak years of his life in football.

Boss Lambert sees characteristics in Delph that he believes could well see him don the armband in the coming years.

The manager thinks he could follow in the footsteps of Stan Petrov, Gareth Barry, Martin Laursen, Dennis Mortimer, Chris Nicholl and Johnny Dixon.

He said: "Fabian will be a big driving force for this club for the next few years.

"It is a great coup for us for him to stay. He will go from strength to strength.

"He is a captain in the making and has that personality and a driving force and hunger to succeed.

"I think he would thrive on the responsibility of it. He could do it.

"He's a mature guy and his loyalty speaks volumes for the guy.

"I think he can be a really, really top player if he keeps his feet on the ground. He's still only young.

"It's about keeping his feet on the ground and keeping that enthusiasm for the game of football.

"As long as he has that and that football hunger and heart then his career can go really, really far.

"He's got years and years. He's a top player. If he can keep that hunger and that desire he won't go far wrong.

"Hopefully he will be a big part of Aston Villa's present and future.

"He's a really good player, top player and he can only get better if he keeps working hard."

There is no way Delph will leave in the summer after that statement.

That's why what Collymore has said is odd and frankly a little disappointing. That he has so little faith in this commitment that he is convinced the club and player are in cahoots and will ultimately part ways in the summer. After what he and the manager said yesterday why on earth would they then turn around and take the silver? It wouldn't make any sense at all. If that is the plan all along why go to the extent of the video and captaincy talk? The club have made a number of errors in the past few seasons but being underhand or deceitful isn't amongst them.
