Heard the excellent news at half-time after consuming 2 delicious balti pies, made the second half even sweeter.

Excellent news!
And admit to not seeing that coming by a long way!!!
His message to the fans is a great move and sort of confirms what I'd like to think about him as a Villa player.
This also sends out a really strong message from the club that things behind the scenes are pretty sound and will give other players - current and potential - confidence in the set up.
We now just need Mr Lambert to utilise his resources to near maximum effect and we can start winning some league games.
UTV!

Great that he's staying, great that there's some positivity. Now, Villa, collectively, deliver it.

Will Vlaar now follow suit?? Not sure we need him - a good defender but his injury record makes him a liability. Good on you Delphy!

The Mirror look rather foolish now.

It won't be the first time and certainly won't be the last. And they wouldn't be the only ones in recent weeks that had him sold to Spurs or Liverpool for practicay nothing.

I was at a family thing this afternoon and one of my nephews had got the pre-match back of head teaser picture on his phone so a slightly silly game of Guess Who ensued. It was Delph from his hair but his ear looked white and other assorted silliness until a text put us out of our misery.

Kind of restores your faith that not all footballers conform to the stereotype.

He's done the right thing. He's only 25, he'll get games here, and if he does want to move on in a couple of years time, I don't think many will begrudge him.

Provided Sanchez stays, that's the nucleus of a good midfield.

Westwood, I am not sure about. There isn't much to his game, aside from the simple ball.  But if we approached the game in the right way, he could be as useful to us as Leon Britton was for Swansea.

In short, a better manager might find a way to utilise him.

As it is, we probably need something different.  Sanchez can play the holding role, and does have a bit more imagination with his passing. So an all-rounder who wants to do more in the final third would be better for us.

Sanchez and Westwood sitting with three players ahead of them (4231).  Weirdly Delph does not fit comfortably into that system - and as he has committed his future to the club - I'd drop Westwood and try and find a "Milner/Henderson" to complement Delph on the other side (433).  Westwood should still get plenty of games and be involved from the bench.

There has been a lot of criticism aimed at those running the club (and rightly so), but they deserve credit for the way they have handled this.  Great news and I think he could be a contender to be made captain next season.  Isn't it about time he had a song as well!!

Yup fair dos to them. Delph went out of his way in the interview to mention Lambert as a key reason, several times.

Interesting he alluded to "next season is going to be very different".

Total applause throughout, so you could not hear what was being said.

Mass cheer and then non stop applause as soon as he said he was staying, so couldn't actually hear anything he said in the video. Which they played on the screens.
