When I was at Uni in Liverpol he used to come and watch some of our matches. He must have lived around Childwall. I think he used to be walking a Dog. Mid 80s are a hazy memory now

I was only a kid when he left, 9 I think, but was a lot more gutted over him going than I was Gray. I had three favourite players as a youngster, Little, Gidman and Linton.

Happy Birthday John.

Linton? Why, hardly comparable with the other two?!

He was at the 57/77/82 celebration in 2007. When Ron Saunders was mentioned he walked off stage. It was good to see he was as arsey as ever.

Gidman was good, but not as good for the club as Sir Ron

I was about 8 at the time, logic plays no part. And so many years on my memory plays no part either so I don't have a clue why.

Seem to recall Linton being very average but a real trier. He took some real racial abuse which cant have been easy for him

Recall very well that Gidmans career was on the line due to the firework incident. I was only 10 but remember the coverage in the Mail

The best right back we've ever had in my opinion. It was a scandal he only won one England cap.

Hi Big Dick.

Do you remember JG being picked against Luxembourg? Revie said it was the best England debut he had seen since Duncan Edwards -then never picked him again!!
