More classic game footage
« on: December 11, 2014, 10:26:46 PM »
Kudos to Villaboy on Youtube for these gems....

    Liverpool (a) 1981-82    0-0

Everton (a) 1996-97   1-0 Ugo, smart AST white away kit

Southampton (a) 1993-94  Bad defeat, Cox ends up in goal. Didn't the away support break the goal posts in this match?

  Wolves (a) 1989-90  1-1 League Cup

In fact sod it, heres his entire channel. Lots of classic games here.  https://www.youtube.com/user/Sheejinks/videos

Perhaps but its like an aladdins cave in there of vintage clips. Lots of great games from the Taylor MK 1, BFR and Little eras plus the obvious Ron Saunders/80s matches.

That win at Goodison, Yorke's shot off the bar clearly went over the line! Oh for goalline technology in the dizzy mid nineties.

Wasn't that the match where Andy Gray flicked the V's to the United supporters on the way back to the centre circle after scoring his second?

That match was six days before my daughter was born and, exactly twenty-eight years to the day that our eldest grandchild was born.

I'd forgotten all about the missed penalty.  Ray Graydon didn't miss many.  I'm still trying to remember how I managed to get to that match when Mrs S was as close to giving birth as she was.  I must have been very persuasive, she's a sucker for tears.

I remember Neil Cox giving the Stretford the V after scoring there in 93/94.

Did I spot some United fans wearing black and white away colour scarves? Also the number seven McGrath. He was the only one in the line up I didn't immediately recognise. Was it John McGrath who went on to manage some third and fourth division clubs in the eighties?

Chris McGrath, Northern Ireland player they signed from Spurs.

Cheers PC. Vaguely heard of him. I think I would have associated him with Spurs but not United.

I'd forgotten about the penalty too. I'd also forgotten the Mortimer goal, a rare shot from Dennis that was on target as he used to normally sky them into the Holte. That was the last game I recall being in the Witton End, after that my father decided we'd go in the Holte as the Man Utd fans as they are today, were complete twats, spitting on people and pretending they were so hard, whilst cowardly knowing they were supported in numbers.

What a great team we were though. Interesting to hear Andy Gray's comments at the end, he/we were looking to win something that season and then go on in the coming years to win the league. And so we did. He was right also about another thing, we had a great manager, despite what he said in latter years, Saunders was brilliant and it was a wonderful time to be a Villa supporter, especially at Villa Park where the only discussion before the game was by how many goals we'd beat the opposition.

Great game - the team that made me fall in love with the Villa.

Both sides played with width, attacked relentlessy, no holding at corners, centre halves prepared to carry the ball over the half way line ..........and they reckon the Premier League is now the best league in the world.
