Would be much happier with this than Keane coming.

Steve Clarke is a very well respected coach and if Lambert did get sacked I'd be happy with him filling in for a bit as I thought he was very unlucky to be sacked at WBA.

I think Lambert could do with some extra help and I would be happy with Clarke filling the role of assistant manager/head coach - cant be any less effective than Keane

Any truth in this or is it speculation?

I have not seen anything at all in the news about it, so I would guess speculation.

Him and Lambert are good mates aren't they so natural when you need to fill a vacancy quickly you give him a ring with him out of football.

Whether he wants it or not or is waiting to get back in as a number one somewhere isn't known.

He was asked about his future by BT when he was on before the west brom arsenal game a few weeks back and he said he wouldn't rule out going back to being an assistant if he thought that it was the right move for him.

It all sounds a bit too much like wishful thinking to me.

Really hope this is true. He's a better manager than Lambert so maybe he can take over when Lambert's nine lives run out.

Not sure about that. His record in the last 6 months was woeful hence the bullet.

Looks to be a better coach than manager and theres nothing wrong woth that

Let's not re-write history here. His record as manager of West Brom was ok:

From                 To                           G   W   D   L   Win %
8 June 2012   14 December 2013   59   19   14   26   32.20

I'd welcome him as a coach, but not as a future manager, We need to be thinking a bit more creatively than Steve Clarke

As we'd be hiring him as a coach there isn't much to worry about. I also don't see any re-writing of history as pretty much everyone has said he's a good coach, average manager.
Isn't he thought of as a good coach because he was coaching good Chelsea players, but thought of as an average manager because he was managing average West Brom players?

I'm guessing that had he been coaching West Brom and managing Chelsea then the accepted wisdom might be different.

He isnt good enough to be a coach at chelski. Out of work for a year now.

I would be happy for him to be our number two but not as manager

So he was good enough to coach them when they won two titles before, but isn't now? What do you think has changed?

Presumably you don't think that he is now a worse coach than he was a decade ago just because Gareth McAuley isn't as good as John Terry

This is the whole point - it's nigh-on impossible to tell the impact that one person has, because the performance of a club depends on far more than one person. Whether they are a coach or a manager.

Would be delighted with Clarke.  Great second in command. Might be a bit of stability behind Lambert. A good sounding board for him. Might coach us out of sitting back when we go ahead.

Not really. Its like saying someone was good in a film because Robert De Niro was acting beside him but was a shit director because he had Danny Dyer to work with. Coaching and managing are two distinct jobs and being adept at one has nothing to do with who you're working with but how you can do your job.
