Was reading the BBC article about the 3rd Round Cup draw and I was shocked by this:-

Ipswich will seek a first fourth-round appearance since 1993 when they meet Southampton at St Mary's.

So they've lost in the 3rd Round of the Cup every year for over 20 years?!?!

Looks a load of crap according to EFS. They've made round 4 and 5 a bunch of times since then.

We beat them away in at least the 4th round in 96 for a start.

I wouldn't be devastated if our New Year's day fixture was moved to the following Wednesday.

Assume the FA Cup game would still be on the Saturday. They're not going to be desperate to watch us at home to Blackpool.

The Premier League game will stay on crappy New Year's Day. It's the FA Cup games which might move.

Fucking Sunday! Probably won't go now.

Quote
The date has been set for Villa's third round FA Cup clash with Blackpool.

We face the Tangerines in B6 on Sunday January 4, with a 3pm kick-off.

The match will not be televised.

Blackpool, of the Championship, are managed by former Birmingham City boss Lee Clark.

The last time we faced Blackpool at Villa Park saw Gerard Houllier's side win 3-2.

Stewart Downing, Nathan Delfouneso and James Collins scored the goals that night.

The only time we have played the Tangerines in the FA Cup was in January 1938, a match Villa won 4-0.

Eric Houghton, Frank Broome, Ronnie Starling and Frank Shell hit the goals.

Villa eventually reached the semi-final before going out to Preston North End.

The last time we won the competition was in 1957 when we defeated Man Utd 2-1 at Wembley, Johnny Dixon lifting the trophy.

On the brightside, it's an extra day's recovery for the players. No excuses. Win please Villa.

I know it's not ideal. But is going to a match on a Sunday really that much worse than going to a match on Saturday?

Yes, if trains are involved.

Might as well nail you tackle to a block of wood as even contemplate it.

Football should be played on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Now and then on Mondays and Fridays (e.g. Tranmere). The only reason for Thursdays is a fixture pile up or 3rd/4th cup replays etc. Sundays should be right out.
