Fantastic draw for Blackpool. Bit of 'giant' killing will lift their spirits.

I can see this being a Sunday game.
What's your name, Louis Van Gaal?  It's what football in England is all about!

Bit of a middle of the road kind of draw, but I will take it for the third round.  With this being Villa you can't take anything for granted but if we are in decent form at the time then I think we should get through.   Will be interesting to see what sort of crowd we get for this.  Might consider going if I can get a reasonably priced ticket.

Presumably Lee Clark will be installed in Blues hall of fame if Blackpool turn us over.

Just hope this season we take the cup competition seriously

Like we did last season when we played virtually a full-strength team?

We have only ever drawn Blackpool twice before in a cup.
1971 league cup R4 match at theirs (which I went to) and a 1938 FA Cup game at ours (which I didn't).

I was there too and I wasn't there too. We must both be quite old but not very old.
I was and wasn't as well. Went to Blackpool on an early train and had to hide behind a pillar at New St. Station as one of the lecturers from the day release college where I was supposed to be that day (Matthew Boulton in Brasshouse Passage, seeing as you ask) got off the train on her way into her work. A fair bit of trouble after the match following our 1-4 defeat.

I remember walking on the sands before the game and being amazed at how far out the sea was - hundreds of yards as metres didn't really exist then. In the old days. But not very, very old.

I was talking more about the managers condescending comments the day before.  Yes we did pick a strong side, but they appeared demotivated by Lambert's remarks about not being botherered about the cup when - in fairness - he was too honest for his own good.

Are we to assume the tie will be played on either Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th?

Yeah. There have been no Monday games so far. We're playing on Thursday so won't be on Friday. Blyth v Blues will be the Friday game I reckon.

Was reading the BBC article about the 3rd Round Cup draw and I was shocked by this:-

Ipswich will seek a first fourth-round appearance since 1993 when they meet Southampton at St Mary's.

So they've lost in the 3rd Round of the Cup every year for over 20 years?!?!
