Decent point, but our lack of attacking nouse is so poor.  Okore's display shows how stupid it was to keep leaving him out in favour of the woeful Clark.

Really disappointing crowd considering a big effort went into trying to celebrate the 140 years, but the Monday kick off, freezing weather and our form recently didn't help.

A run of games now where we simply have to pick up points

I thought the crowd was amazing given that we have served up football that makes Stoke look like Barcelona for what seems like years now

Contextually this is a good result?  Five and half seasons ago, when Villa had their third successive top six finish, with two trips to Wembley thrown in for good measure, Southampton started on minus ten points in League One. Just let that sink in for a second.

Sanchez gave the ball away half a dozen times so in that respect he was woeful, but I thought last night he actually looked a bit more up to speed and provided a physical presence in the middle that caused Southampton problems.

When he went off, there was a gaping hole between Westwood and Cleverley that Clyne just waltzed into for their goal. Fair enough if Lambert thought his legs had gone by that stage, but it was plain to see we needed another midfielder in there to maintain the balance and protect the centre backs.

Weimann missed Bertrand's run; Gabby missed Byrne's run. That's the cost of the tactical set-up we had: they'd worked their nuts off chasing hopeful balls hoofed upfield, and defending from the  front. In the 81st minute they were caught napping; no great surprise.
If Lambert wanted Sanchez off, he'd have better bringing on Richardson as holding midfielder and Grealish as the auxiliary attacking force.

Sorry but for me if Sanchez stays on we see that game out. It was a truly colossal mistake of a substitution to swap our DCM for Darrent Bent.
Annoyed.

Weimann missed that sitter, then argued with the linesman about the throwing instead of  turning to face play, mark up and chase the ball down.Southampton then go up the other end and score.

Although Sanchez was beginning to look a bit ropey at that point, if he'd have been on the pitch it would have been Richardson who was covering the runner rather than Weimann.

In other games lately Sanchez has run out of steam and given free kicks/the ball away in costly ways. I don't think the problem was taking him off, necessarily - it is just that Bent wasn't the sensible replacement.

Albeit that Southampton didn't play well last night, the game had the flow of 11 men against 10, with us set up to hang on and hope.  How can you expect people to shell out large sums of money to go and watch that?

It was an OK performance but only in the context of the how unambitious we are on the pitch these days.

I thought it was a pretty poor game all round in the first half. The second half had a bit more life to it.

Gabby looked as though he carried a threat. Considering how many we had out the defence did well and Clark and Okore can hold their heads up. Nzogbia was awful. We don't have enough width and there isn't enough zip on our delivery into the box from wide areas.

The big worry again is 1 shot on target all game . We simply need more threat at burnley palace Leicester which is such a big 3 games for us.

Nothing wrong with the decision to replace Sanchez. Unfortunately there was a lot wrong with the decision to bring on Bent as his replacement.

In the context of our position, a point is a point.
But it is mind numbing to see us in action.
30% possesion at home in the second half, the commentator said we have not scored a second half goal in the last 17 games. Apparently last one against Stoke.
No one looks for the ball, throw ins lost. Goal kicks high and hopefull, I counted three times last night that the ball went out from a kick.
And we know that with Lambert it will probably not get any better.
For fucks sake, someone come up with the money and buy us out.

The new lamppost would have been more effective up top.

The problem with the Bent sub is Lambert after the game adminted the game plan was to hit it over the top to Gabby, that tactic with Bent was not going to work so move Gabby wide and Bent upfront ?

Bringing on Grealish to hold the ball draw some fouls or Bacuna to add energy to midfield or play wide to cover Hutton would of been better.Bent offer's nothing unless you are putting balls in the box ..which we arn't.

There is no team play in us every section defence /midfield /Attack plays seperatly , what exactly do we do in training ?The midfield worked hard but have no attacking threat what so ever.We played last night like a lower league club in the cup who know they have a pacy striker so just hit them at every opportunity.Obviously Lambert learned this tactic from Bradford and Naki Wells.
