Alan Hutton is back for Villa's home clash with Southampton on Monday.

The right-back missed the last three matches against QPR, Tottenham and West Ham with an ankle problem.

But the reliable defender is available again for the Saints clash.

However, centre-halves Philippe Senderos, Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker are all set to miss out.

That leaves Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark as the available players in that position, with Chris Herd also on hand after returning from his loan spell at Bolton.

Paul Lambert said: "Alan is fine. He is back fit and has been training this week. He will be fine.

"We have one or two injuries.

"Philippe is going to be out. I am not happy with what's happened to him. He only played six minutes for us at West Ham and then goes away with Switzerland and trains a full session and pulls up with his calf.

"If they'd looked at the situation - he's not played for a month. That's what I am not happy with.

"I thought it should have been managed better. There should be a protocol. He's just back and was feeling good at the West Ham game.

"Ron is struggling with his calf injury. It's different from his last one. But he got hurt in the game. You can be a bit more at ease with that.

"Nathan is certainly struggling as well.

"It's not great that we have lost three centre-halves. But the lads who play will give us everything they have got.

"Ciaran played [for Republic of Ireland v USA] and Roy said he did well. Jores is just coming back from an injury. He is ready to play.

"He was unfortunate with his injury. He came here and started really well and then got his bad injury. But he's ready to go.

"Chris Herd's back too. He's fit again as well. So you've still got options there."

So we have a weakened defence, surely the best form of defence would be to attack....oh shit.

At 9/1, 0-0 is tempting.

Nice to see him talking about Okore in a manner which suggests he might give him a feckin' game.

I've a sneaky feeling that Okore will still be on the bench and either Lowton or Herd will play CB. I hope not. I want to see Jores playing, but knowing Lambert he'll do something daft.

Beat me to it Supertom. Even with Baker, Vlaar and Senderos out Okore probably still won't get a game - Lambert will probably put Herd in there just to spite him. Crocked defence, no Delph in midfield, no Benteke up front, can't see anything but an easy win for them. A goal at the Holte End for us would be nice but given we've only scored 3 at Villa Park all season I'm not holding my breath

They don't need to win, they don't have a manager in danger of being sacked, they don't have a very expensive striker failing to score.
No Vlaar, Swiss Phil or lumberjack Baker will see a makeshift back four perform defensive miracles or fold...

0-0 or 0-4 (and let the fun begin!)

Think Lambert will play Hutton at centre back alongside Clark keeping Lowton at right back, everything points to a comfortable away win but think we will grind out another point.

A much needed 2-1 win. Peter Broadbent and Lionel Martin in front of a huge crowd.
No chance Ron!
They're both injured!

The players, not the crowd!
