Nigel Spink isn't a modern day player, so I'd have a degree of sympathy for him. Sure, he earned a good wage for the time, but nothing like the astronomical figures they do today.

Just pretend you are a player on 40k a week and you can see the deductions ,23k after Tax

20k a week would leave you on just under 12k

John Carew was declared bankrupt too.

I guess you don't get too many football agents going this way do you?

Probably not, but they are in the advantageous position of being able to negotiate better contracts for their clients, enabling both parties to reap the benefits, and have the first clue about money's worth while not spunking it all up the wall.

I saw Diego Costa's wages and I'm surprised at how relatively little he earns after tax.

Aren't you in immigration? Couldn't you keep him banged-up abroad unless he agreed to play for us?

I think his missus is Portuguese so he could - and probably did- come in without any immigration hold ups.

Maybe the last two has something to do with some creative accounting.

Ched Evans.

Oh, actually bankrupt rather than morally so? Sorry.

He's served his time for an awful crime. Is he to be further punished by not being allowed to do his job?

Anyway, this is off the subject.

I agree. I was just being facetious, as is my wont.

I agree - although I know that wasn't your point Richard - but it appears he is being discriminated against because he's a footballer.

Good job the HCEOs weren't taking Ruddock himself away, they'd have needed a bigger van and a crane.

I'm not sure any ex rapist would get an easy time of it being reintroduced into society or employment
