Waking up with a massive a Villa hard-on. Looking forward to a season ramming shit down the throats of tosspot teams like Sturk, Southampton and Leicester that aren't fucking fit to play at Villa Park let alone purport to compete with us.

We were strong in defence and used that as a base to break in numbers which had them struggling to reorganise quickly enough. For a first game of the season it could hardly of gone any better. When you consider the people who weren't involved it makes you think we should cope with injuries far better this season. The new signings all looked decent, Senderos really surprised me but the test will be against strikers with a bit more movement. Hutton actually looked the player enticed to Spurs from Rangers all those years ago, not the kick anything that moves bloke from when he last played for us. It looks as though the events of the last few months with the coaching staff and Lerner's planned sale plus the loss of the chief exec have galvanised the club. No more bomb squad, a few older heads to help the youngsters and a refreshed coaching setup. I know it is (very) early days so I am not getting carried away but we have set ourselves a benchmark for a level of performance that we have to maintain.
I wonder if Hutton playing well today was physical proof of how much better Lambert, for all his faults, is better than McLeish.

Remember the first game last season, it all went tits up after then. Hopefully this season will be better, time will tell.
How much of that performance yesterday - good shape, some feisty challenges, fighting to get the ball back when we lost it - was down to the impact made by a certain Mr Keane? Quite a lot I reckon.
