Does anyone else remember this concert ? I remember sitting in my nan and grandads back garden in sheldon and could hear it in the distance. Unbelievably loud.

Yes it took place in the summer of 1988, I was doing my exams at the time.

I went - I was about 17 and went with the then girlfriend.
I can't remember much apart from standing on the pitch and spending the first 20mins or so looking outward at the stands.

Here you go. One of the few times I've been on the pitch and not been chased by stewards. :)

I was there. It wasn't as good as I expected it to be in that it felt like every clip I'd ever seen of him on television, down to a girl from the crowd going on stage to dance. Incidentally, Courtney Cox is the girl dancing in the video.

I remember a Blues mate saying that Villa Park was a good place for him to play as our fans were born to run. It's what passed for humour in those days.

Yes, I lived on the Sheldon/Solihull border at the time and I could hear the concert at home too!

I was at the concert with another H&V poster. I really enjoyed it. I remember a lot of fuss in The Mail afterwards about the noise. We saw Pink Floyd at Maine Road that summer too. The year before I had seen Bowie at Wembley and Maine Road and the year before that I saw Queen at Wembley. It was a memorable few years for someone in their mid teens.

Below is a link to a page of the Coventry Evening Telegraph from when Bruce played at the Ricoh in 2013.  If you scroll down the page and click on "View Gallery" you will find 20 or so photos of the Villa Park 1988 gig(s), including some good crowd photos.

On the second night at VP by the way, Bruce performed "War" with Edwin Starr.

I can't remember there being more than one show. I honestly thought it was a one off. I must have been there on the second night because I remember Edwin Starr coming on.

Organised by their manager Bill Curbishley who was the older brother of Alan Curbishley. His Wiki page is, excuse the pun, wicked. "Served a fifteen year term in jail for armed robbery, was a pall bearer at the funeral of Reggie Kray and now has a home in London and a villa in Spain".

Oh yes I remember and I was there with a friend. June 1988 barmy warm evening and we stood on Holte End. Stage was Witton End. Bruce did 4 hours solid with a 20 minute break in between. I thought he was brilliant and one of the best value for money concerts I have ever been to.

As I remember we were on the pitch quite near to the stage. He was known to do long shows and the quote at the time was "The boss really delivers". To be honest we didn't give a f**k. We were seventeen, the Villa had just been promoted and we were watching Bruce Springsteen at Villa Park. Life was good.
