Aston Tavern
« on: July 26, 2014, 07:05:42 AM »
I no its been mentioned on another thread about  the tavern ropening! But i think it should have its own thread! As i went to the villa yesterday with my son to spend more of my hard earned money in the club shop i popped over to the tavern to see what was going on! And i must say i was very impressed with what i saw. I spoke to one of the builders and he said they opening for first home match! And they have a massive bandstand in the garden and will be putting up a huge screen! And a tree house for the kids!! I also had a look  inside and it looks very nice and spacious! I think i no where i will be spending the rest of my hard earned money this season!!

Where is the Aston Tavern relative to VP?
I gave up drinking pre-match when the pub on The Broadway (The Archers?) became a Nursery but a decent venue might tempt me back from the Holte End's dubious pleasures...

Go to Aston Tavern's facebook page and look at "recent posts by others", click on one of Colin Maddix posts and you will see recent photos of the place.

Either a three minute walk or a five minute stagger to the Holte End. Depending on your alcohol intake. ;)
Just walk past the church and there it is.

..........so now I'll have in my head the song that includes the words "..............They built a church next to it, And the Aston Tavern too,..........."  (I bet they won't "........serve old Ansells Mild, Our Brummies' favourite brew,...." though

Sounds a good idea to me, should certainly create more of a family atomsphere.  I am hopeing to take my friends son (who I am currently trying to convert to Villa) to a game over the next couple of years, so that sounds like something we could check out.

Paying two pound to get into a pub will create more of a family atmosphere??

Hasn't ever worked for all the other pubs near the ground.

I reckon, if you want a proper pub with decent beer, where you will get it served in a glass rather than a plastic pot, and it won't be full of the, err, not wishing to be disparaging and all that, fucking idiots that follow us (okay I was disparaging), then you save your two quid each and use it for a taxi fare from a much better pub a bit further away.

I will be sticking to my usual haunt rather than this place which will no doubt be rammed, difficult to get served or find a seat and you pay for the privilege . May aswell stamp MUG on your forehead if you go in here. Til it settles down anyway.

One of the great ironies of modern football is the way people complain about the cost of going to the match yet have accepted without a murmur the concept of paying to get into a pub.

Which is one of the reasons I won't be going into the Tavern on a match day.
What's the £2 for anyway? Security?

That's another thing, and it isn't just in football.

"Why do we have to pay?"

"To cover the cost of security."

"Why do you need security?"

"Because we're so busy."

"Won't the extra takings cover it then?"

Exactly - a number of the pubs we go into at away games have security and don't charge, possibly because they're making a bomb overcharging us for crap (occasionally reasonable) beer. Charging to get in for that is taking the piss.

That's the thing... for an entry fee of £2 if there are more than a couple of you it will be a better idea to hop in a cab to the ground from somewhere decent...

Who owns the pub anyway? With the money spent it must be a national pub co?
