I hope that some trade deals (especially with India) get done in the background. Otherwise this is a pointless event as far as I'm concerned.

Why is it pointless? It's just a sporting event. The talent that is turning up shows that the athletes don't think it's pointless.

No one is pretending it's on a par with The Olympics or even the World championships of whatever sport they are competing in but it will be fun and competitive and I'm looking forward to it.

Especially Malawi v Northern Ireland in the netball.

And you have an insider's view from the athlete's call room again.

After my experience at the Olympics and Paralympics in London I've been selected as one of England's Technical officials and I'll be going up (by train) on Thursday morning. It's a much smaller Call Room tent this time but at least we are much closer to the stadium, and I'm told we might get to go out on track with the athletes for some events.

It's sport. I'll watch it. Wish they would get rid of some of the swimming though. Never understood why swimming backwards and swimming like a butterfly are classed as sports when running sideways and running like a moth aren't. Just designed to keep the Crims at the top of the medal table.

Shame there's no Twenty20 involved.

We don't want them involved. It is only open to countries who can make tea properly.

I've been to Boston and see them dunk tea bags in the harbour - which is what American tea tastes like.

Only civilized countries allowed in the Commonwealth !

The absence of T20 Cricket and Golf is puzzling to me.

If Lawn Bowls is included, there's plenty of other sports/games that should also be there.

Why would any potential CG host nations struggle with those two sports?

 Canada might need to lay a couple of wickets but I can't see either sport being a problem anywhere else in the Commonwealth ( apart, of course from England struggling to field a decent cricket team)
