Peter Alliss has been a wonderful commentator on the golf over the years, but surely the time has come to put him out to grass.

It's becoming increasingly annoying that he can't follow the action accurately

Rory doing his best to throw it away the last few holes.

...and then eagles 16 and 18.  Game over me thinks.
My e/w on McDowell is my last bet standing.

I think he's great at the golf. A calming knowledgeable voice . One of the only bits of the bbc  I'm happy my dollars go towards . Same with ken brown .

I'd disagree there. He comes from a generation where it doesn't really matter at the end of the day and he doesn't spend his time spouting needless hyperbole that seems to afflict modern sports commentary. Golf is probably one of the sports closest to Cricket where the commentators whilst being able to give some whimsy and humour are able to provide quite sharp analysis of how players are thinking and also on the technicalities of swings/technique etc.  it'll be a sad day when he does eventually retire as I'm willing to forgive some of the lapses./mistakes he makes in commentary with some of the sharply observed comments he makes and picture he paints of the Open each year. He is one of those TV broadcasters who actually does understand the maxim of less is more and let the pictures tell the story.

Oh almost forgot, I've been blown away by McIlroys play over the last 2 days. I'll be honest and say I've always thought he's a bit of a c*** and has one of those punchable faces but he seems to have grown up a bit in the last couple of years and I'm starting to change my opinion. That 4 iron into the last to set up the eagle chance....Jesus I dream of hitting shots like that.........

The final day and it's closing is always an emotional time for me and I won't bore  you with the detail. For me watching on the bbc and with peter Alice & co as coverage is just right. If sky or Espn ever get hold of this coverage it will be a sad day. On Friday I watched 8 hours of glorious uninterpupted hours of sport: long may that continue

Isn't he a Villa fan, sure I read it in H&V once. Golf wouldn't be the same without his dulcet tones but yeah there are better comms on there nowadays.

Well done Rory anyway.

Well done Rory & for holding your nerve so well. I'm only sad that so many conceited prats will now start wearing grey shirts with pink sleeves.

Is it one of the Crown Jewels or whatever they're called that have got to be on terrestrial?

Nah not any more, Sky are certainly interested so I'm afraid it's going to be on there sooner or later or a split type coverage share as you get with the Masters now which the BBC used to have exclusively.

Money talks in any sport.

Well done Rory!
Can't see the R&A rushing back to Liverpool though. That has to be one of the worst poem venues going and certain sections of the crowd seemed a bit unruly. I've never seen someone manhandled off the course by 4 bobbies before.

I'd be interested to know what the chap had done; McIlroy pointed him out straight away.

Think he'd been heckling mcilroy when he was on his downswing.
Interesting at the prize giving when Rory mentioned he's a Yanited fan ! The booing was very very loud .
