Did anyone on here witness Paul Mortimer's infamous v-sign salute to the Holte after scoring?
As I remember it he ran to celebrate with the fans, didn't get the response he wanted and gave a gesture that said 'forget it'. I always thought the incident was blown out of proportion.
Mark Walters little dance when he scored at The Holte End for Liverpool. Then when we were 4-2 up singing "Walters, show us your dance".
Yea, he scored in a already won game v Luton Town 4-0. I think he went to the Holte End strutting thinking 'hey I'm the business' and the fans weren't having it, he was crap before and after that goal.
I remember it along the same lines as Andy and Damo.
I also seem to remember that the antipathy towards him started at a game at Villa Park earlier in the season - maybe the 3-1 win over Forest, in which Teale scored an own goal after 12 seconds or something ridiculous? Mortimer came on as a sub at some point, while we were level with them I think, but really putting them under pressure below the Holte. He was on the right wing when the ball, which has been in the box immediately beforhand, fizzed out to him. Instead of knocking it straight back in, he let it run out of play, even though he had plenty of time. The Holte let its dissatisfaction be known. I think Big Ron also took him off not long after. Being subbed when already a sub never being a good sign.
My faded memory of that day is of him seemingly being very short of confidence; maybe even a bit overwhelmed.
