Found out last night that my missus has Premier Sports. So watched quite a bit of the Copa America.

Carlos Sanchez was Colombia's best player in the first half, but faded in the second half.

In the Brazil Venezuela match, Brazil were cruising 2-0 and brought David Luiz on. After that Venezuela suddenly started to have chances and nearly got an injury time equaliser losing 2-1 in the end.

Nothing baffles me more in football than David Luiz. £50m? In teams of the year? I have a greater understanding of black holes.

My goodness English football is so dire to watch in tournaments. The U21's are marginally more exciting than the first XI.

It'd be nice to say the future looks bright, but it doesn't, it looks more than a little bit like the present.

2022 WC is in the bag. I used to go into tournaments from 2000 to 06 actually thinking we had a chance. Oh the naivety of youth. I don't know which is worse, going into a tournament really positive and then being disappointed, or knowing how shit we are and that being verified. At least in the former there were positive vibes at some point.

In fairness, England did have a pretty decent set of players in that period and with a bit of luck and the ability to take penalties under pressure, we might just have sneaked a final place.

And there wasn't an outstanding/dominant World/Euro team at the time.  We could have beaten Brazil in 2002, and then it would have been Turkey and one of the weakest German teams ever in the Final.

Euro 2004 - Rooney's only great tournament, if he hadn't got injured we'd have beaten Portugal in the QFs.

World Cup 2006 is where we turned to shit, and even then we got to the QFs before another inevitable penalty shoot-out defence.

We've only truly been shit since then.

It just baffles me how we persisted for so long playing 4-4- f**king-2. I just don't get it. I mean even back to when scholes played we played him out left and he quit. We played Gerrard out right. It was so painfully obvious the formation needed changing. Can Lampard and Gerrard play together? Well obviously f**king not in a two man midfield.

Frustrating wasn't the word. The whole team should have been built around Scholes but yet again England promote athleticism and power(Gerard/Lampard/Beckham) over ability to keep hold of a Football (Scholes). We had a good team then but couldn't get the thing to gel, God knows what our best formation should have been ut Eriksen/McLaren/Capello were paid shit loads of money to find it, and didn't.

England should be promoting athleticism and power. It's what they're good at. They're never going to be able to pass the ball around like Spain, have the natural flair of Brazil or the Netherlands and don't have one of the greatest players of all time in their ranks like Portugal or Argentina do.

When English clubs dominated Europe they did so playing a particularly British style that was extremely high intensity. They should do the same with the national team.

While Scholes was a great player, a large part of his success was due to the pandering of English referees who were terrified of the wrath of Ferguson if they booked/sent him off for any of those ninety ludicrous challenges he did per game. Had he been played in the middle for England regularly, ahead of Gerrard/Lampard, he'd have been sent off twice a tournament.

Under-21 Internationals are pointless. They'd have been better letting the players have a proper holiday. Like our Jack.

usual England malaise at tournaments. Players not nearly as good as their hype. The Swedish lad was right. This lot look lop sided because the manager is determined to pick Kane and needs to pick Ings as well because Kane has been ineffective. We are undermanned in midfield, and Chalobah/LoftusCheek are not as good as their opposite numbers.

Only Redmond and Lingaard look to be worth the air fare.

I've watched all England's games in this tournament and Redmond has been gash in all of them. He's a very poor man's Raheem Sterling.

I've watched quite a bit of the England U21 tournament
and the same problem persists with the youngsters as it does with the senior team

They just arnt technically good enough
