anyone know where the Europa final is next year,
might just get in a hotel booking early

Apparently it's at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland on 18th May.
Bollux. Expensive hotels there.
Might have to make do with a decent camp-site!

I used to cross the French - Swiss border at Basel every weekend almost, for about six months.

Going one way, 10ish Friday evening, going the other, late afternoon Sunday.

I've never seen, before or since, a big city with so little sign of life in the evening.

On the bright side, as per above, you're right next door to That France where cheap motel accomodation can be had easily (although that'll probably change for the final).

Christ. Just read the above and realised I'd talking about accommodation for when we reach the final of a competition we don't know if we're even allowed to enter yet.

Ha ha it's the hope that kills you. And isn't that the frustrating thing, we should be a very competitive team in the Europa League.

Karlsruhe drew 1-1 away against Hamburg and could easily have won. Hamburg scored with one of their two good chances and Karlsruhe hit the crossbar twice in 11 seconds.

The Rangers game was funny.

Pity that Zombie Rangers got one back.

Hopefully Motherwell will hang on in the second leg but I've a horrible feeling that Rangers will pull off a comeback

Do any countries other than Scotland and Germany still have this format of playoff, ie involving a team from the higher league ?

Maybe some of the countries with a smaller top flight? Austria, Scandinavian countries, Netherlands??

That stat that's been doing the rounds for the last few weeks about Falkirk reaching the cup final for the first time since they last won it in 1957?

Well they fucking lost as well.

Yep a friend texted me that 1913 Falkirk won the Scottish Cup, Villa FA Cup. 1957 same thing. He then went on to say it was bad news because Falkirk were a goal down at the time and went on to lose. Then "us" happened...

Mr Messi

http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/messi-opens-copa-del-rey-final-scoring-with-marvelous-g-1707941937

Was saying to someone having been battered today, that remember a few years ago when Messi scored 4 against Arsenal? And then you look at the kicking Arsenal gave us, makes you realize relative to your place in the game the gaps in front of you. For as great as Arsenal can be they have been battered a number of times in the past few years too.

Falkirk reached the final and lost to Kilmarnock in 1997. Our Andy Gray junior played for them in it for them if I remember correctly.

Actually those suggestion are realistic. When we ve been previously linked with 33 year old Rickie Lambert, lescott and Darren fletcher and previous windows  the likes of Joe Cole and cleverly and senderos were signed what I've mentioned is total sense. I've just noted players who would improve and are all names we have heard of.
Plus the papers and internet media talk utter garbage about transfers whereas I put thought into potential signings as to what level villa are at at this moment. We can all suggest spurs players or ex spurs players they all do links with ex clubs but my thinking is players of the proven prem ilk and winners .
The under 21 tournament kicks off in June and expect villa and other clubs to be linked to players.
