We are actually now relying on others to fail to win.
How?
Because technically / mathematically , even if we won our 4 if the other results all go against us, we finish 18th

How do Sunderland and Leicester both catch us when they play each other?

They did help by losing to us too under Lambert and McLeish.

How did that fuck us over?

Because Leicester and Sunderland will both get 3 points when they play each other.

If we got 44 points and still went down that would involve everyone else including teams like Albion and Newcastle having absolutely blinding run ins. Newcastle aren't going to get 9 points from the remaining games, for example.

It's in our hands, win 2 home games and we're ok. Still fancy us to win against Southampton, or at least draw there. Stupid defensive errors have to be cut out.
Technically it's out of our hands

No it isn't. We win all 4 games and we stay up. Burnley and QPR couldn't catch us and Leicester and Sunderland play each other guaranteeing one of them couldn't catch us.

Likewise, as unlikely as it seems, we could lose all our games & still stay up.

None of Wigan, Sunderland or Villa were relegated those seasons.

So how did it 'fuck us over'?

If Leicester win tomorrow (which they won't) and both Leicester and Villa stay up then Chelsea won't have 'fucked us over' this time either.

Leicester play Newcastle as well. So I think we can discount the mental idea it's out of our hands even if we win all 4 games.

As dodgy as things look and they absolutely do, having 3 of our remaining 4 games at home should be enough to see us home. We are going to attack like crazy and simply try and outscore our opponents. And thank fuck for Sunderland being as gash as they are. Leicester surely can't keep winning, and even Hull will stumble. And bear in mind even if we got a massive point at the weekend we'd still be in the same position tonight albeit with an extra point.

It's a 4 game season now. If we look after our business teams below us cannot catch us. Very little margin for error.

Yes. Like it 'unfolded' that we beat Spurs despite having no chance. It works both ways.
