I don't really care for the opinions in the press because they completely ignore any concept of being impartial and play up average performances from the favourites and make the players they're less convinced by sound crap whenever possible.
"The press" isn't one entity. There are plenty of insightful people out there who write about football for a living who do nothing like what you are describing above.

Dismissing anybody who writes about football as being of one opinion is astonishingly lazy in my view. As in any field, there are people who are good at what they do and bad at what they do.

Dave Woodhall is 'an opinion in the press', does he "completely ignore any concept of being impartial and play up average performances from the favourites"?

Absolutely he does.

but given you didn't bother stating who that quote was from I couldn't reference them directly so I went for a blanket 'press' quote.  I was mainly referring to the likes of Charlie Nicholas, Mark Lawrenson, Robbie Savage, etc.  I completely understand that their are some good football critics in the press but, as a whole, the press in this country have shown themselves repeatedly to be lazy when it comes to all sports reporting so they generally write positively about the clubs and players they like and write negatively about those they don't.  Delph plays for an unfashionable club so a slightly below average performance draws little criticism.  Henderson, Walcott and Barkley are all in the media darlings category so none of them have been picked up on their poor performance.

As said I think Delph played a really poor pass a few minutes before he came off which is all many of the reporters could remember about his performance so they went with the 'poor passing' angle.

Delph was poor he needlessly gave the ball away on several occasions

I don't see what the problem in acknowledging that is

Walcott was anonymous too

So given the quote that I posted that prompted you to start complaining about laziness and partiality finishes with "That said, he performed no worse than Henderson. Might suffer from the fact that he doesn't play for Liverpool, though" suggests that the above clearly isn't true?

If you make the decision to read or listen to the likes of Robbie Savage, Mark Lawrenson and Charlie Nicholas then you're likely to find yourself complaining about standards in the press.

If you read and listen to people who are better, then you're less likely to complain about it.

If Delph and Walcott were anomymous that would make Jordan Henderson's performance unbeliveably poor on a new level. But the newspapers ignored that.

It was and they did, but players have bad games now and then. As much as I dislike the team he plays for, Henderson has largely been excellent this season.

At least the media in general did pick up on the fact that Phil Jones is a leaden-footed, lumbering mess in a midfield role - and not a lot better in defence.

Charlton having a man sent off and then blowing their lead at Millwall just ruined my 40/1 fivefold. I only stuck a quid on but the £40 returns would have been nice. I'm exaggerating slightly. £39.05 returns to be precise. A figure I will have stuck in my head all weekend because I am a bad loser.

I don't mind Charlie Nicholas as it happens,
 he's just a football pundit mind I wouldn't call him a journalist

He was also a fine player in his day just went to the wrong side that didn't appreciate flair or skills,  yes youngsters Arsenal were very dreary to watch back then

Amazing to think that at one point many moons ago, "boring, boring Arsenal" was a commonly heard chant.
