It's funny because whilst I don't think anyone defended the fans being on the pitch before the final whistle, I think the major argument was about player safety. Before or after the final whistle the danger to players and officials is equal.

Reading are sponsored by Waitrose. There's no way they'd associate with something like a pitch invasion Black Friday equivalent.

As Kenneth Wostenholme famously said "Some people are on the pitch. They think it's all over. It is now obvious that several villages have lost their idiots and there is a dark foreboding over the days ahead of us in the forthcoming two decades."

'Some Reading fans come onto the pitch. And then some more. There's hundreds now. Some blue smoke on the pitch too.
Unlike Aston Villa fans recently, Reading's supporters waited for the final whistle.'

There's a pretty spiteful view from the BBC.

I was watching the game and there was a pitch invader towards the end that the camera didn't show, not sure if it was a Reading or Bradford fan.

Is Paul Franks writing this garbage on the BBC website?

And Lineker just appreciating it, hypocritical wankers!

To be fair to Lineker, he was one to not follow the Pearce/Lawrenson comments after our game. He was a bit more balanced.

I fell asleep watching the Swansea v Liverpool game. Woke up and continued watching it. It took me two or three minutes to realise I had been asleep longer than I thought and was now watching Swansea v Liverpool from a year or two back on Sky classics.

No mention of the streaker at the game? A friend who was the Madjeski said that play was interrupted a few times.

Read The "I" paper at breakfast in my hotel this morning and it was praising a "good natured" pitch invasion, where the Bradford players were able to "wander about the Reading fans, getting commiseration handshakes while walking to applaud their own magnificent fans"

So clearly not armageddon and the end of civilised society like we saw at Villa Park!

Seems Reading were so disgusted by it that they gave him his own theme tune.

The whole over reaction to the events at Villa park were largely down to the commentary duo of Pearce and Lawrenson.

They did a game together during the WC and were just so awful and negative. I have a lot of time for Pearce but he is letting mistakes creep in all too often and as for the other one, he is so far removed from the real world of football that his misreading of such events is inevitable.

Was Pearce the one who totally failed to understand goal-line technology at the World Cup? He should've been retired, in the same way that lame horses get "retired", straight after that.

Yep that was truly embarrassing. Didn't he rant on about the technology changing its mind or something?
