I reckon it's managerial code for "I'm out of my depth".

It means 'We lost but in a triumph of hope over logic we will try exactly the same things next game'.

Bollix d'or!  Won by Ronaldo again. A disgrace  because it should have gone to one of the German players for being winners of the ultimate prize in football.

No, because it's player of the year, not team of the year.

Anyway, Ronaldo won the ultimate prize in club football.

I think Ronaldo was definitely the best player last year, and but for injury might have been great in the World Cup too, but I agree - I think in a World Cup year you want that acknowledged.

It's a FIFA award and therefore one of the Germans like Nauer should have won it for  excellent displays in the FIFA world cup and a great season with his club in the CL.

Not for me. It's an individual event.

They already have their acknowledgement in the form of their winners' medals.

Not that it really matters too much, I doubt Neuer will lose sleep over it!

Agreed, in World Cup year, the player of the year should have at least had a half decent World Cup.

Nope. European Cup > World Cup.

Wouldn't have thought so, World Cup is every 4 years and the Champions League has the 4th best team from the country in it.
