I suppose because he thinks he'll likely get the push from Newcastle some time soon so might as well go to a club where he is well liked. Deserves some credit for choosing to jump back into management rather than waiting for a huge payoff.

I don't think anyone would claim Palace are anywhere near as big a club as Newcastle.

Why is Pardew linked with Palace
Newcastle are higher in the league, bigger spenders, a lot bigger club,

I don't understand the link

I think he used to play for them.

Scored the winner at Villa Park for them in the 1990 FA Cup semi-final - best semi-final I've ever seen.
Was a bit surprised when I heard this last night, but something seems a bit amiss up there, maybe linked to Ashley trying to get on the board at Rangers.

I reckon he's sick of the abuse he and his family have got up there - he's not the most likeable person but I think he's been pretty dignified in his press conduct over the last few months considering the abuse he gets regardless of a bad run being followed by a really good one.

Barcodes fans delusions of grandeur exceed that of the most demanding Villa fan and it's a thankless task in many ways, especially if you're seen as a Cockney outsider with a penchant for losing derby games (and yet they're the only team to beat Chelsea this season). The heart-strings will make him pull towards his old club Palace and presumably he and his family would feel more at home back darn sarf.

I think that is harsh on Newcastle fans.

I know a few and they are pretty much all agreed, they can't stand Pardew, see him as a chancer, and hate the football he plays. He is also, by all accounts, unbelievably obnoxious.

Danny Dyer to replace Pardew to confirm the cockney mafia theory.

Apparently there are rumours Palace are going to pay Pardew £3m plus bonuses a year.

Isn't Pardew also the lowest paid PL manager at Newcastle ? If I was him I'd be out of their and away from Ashley in a shot .

Great, just what we needed right before we play them. I'd rather Pardew than the clueless unwanted record breaker guy we have now.

I imagine a huge bonus structure if he keeps them up .

Really hope they don't appoint him before our game.

Think he has something ridiculous like 1 defeat in 14 games against us and he's hardly managed the top teams in the league.

Agreed, we do not want him in charge for our home game with Palace, all games are tough for Villa but this being
Pardews first match will make this so much harder, lets hope the talks drag on past New Years Day.

Fantasy scenario. Pardew goes to Palace and the smug twat gets relegated. Newcastle collapse after he leaves and they also get relegated. QPR and Droopy join them, and somehow Albion manage to make it 4 relegated.
This is genius and perfection combined.
Superb PWS: perhaps it needs to be a proper PL/FA rule: only bottom 3 go down ... unless WBA finish 4th from bottom, in which case they should go down anyway.
Perfectly reasonable in this household.
