What's with the grey shorts being worn by Refs in the CL?

It's like they've all forgot to bring their proper shorts and have just gone and bought a pair of gym shorts

Silver & black are the colours of the CL logo e.g. the flag they put in the centre circles pre kick off. Daresay some wanky branding think tank ran some ideas up the flagpole for referees 'uniforms', yah.
