Was talking to a united fan I work with this morning and blames Ferguson totally for their problems. He said it was his short termism and selfish desperation to get one over on city and win the title in his last year that's put them where they are now.

Much as I'd like to blame that horrible git I don't really get this. How exactly did winning the title mess them up?

It didn't. They just don't hear themselves when they come out with bollocks like that. They ignore the fact that one manager got more out of that club than anyone else would have. Yes, during those years he had some of the best players in Europe at his disposal but he is only adding to his legacy by proving that he was also able to do it with much lesser players and against some of the most astonishing spending the league had ever seen.

I think what he means is hanging on to Giggs at 40 and then dragging scholes out of retirement.  They wernt great  in his last season tbh, what helped was city, chelsea and arsenal screwing up and the 20 odd points he got by intimidating officials to do what he wanted.

A Manchester United fan has scooped a cool £1250 by accident last night – after mistakenly tipping MK Dons to beat the Red Devils 4-0.

Twitter user Hollie Griffiths had decided to use a £2.50 free bet she’d earned to take a punt on United’s Capital One Cup clash with League One outfit MK Dons.

There's a lot of those half and half scarfs around MK today

Never has there been a game more appropriate for them

I think he did do long term planning. He brought in plenty of young players, including Zaha who didn't properly become a Man U player till after Fergie had left. It does seem that a lot of them just aren't that great. Maybe, while he retained his tactical, motivational and referee-intimidatory skills, his ability to spot a player waned in his old age?

Talking of Robbie Savage, this, the other day in the Torygraph, was excellent:

Excellent piece, I have stopped listening to anything on BBC radio and television about football for precisely these reasons

A day will come where he will tip a team for relegation and as possible title contenders within the same sentence.

Regarding Man ure, I did say to my mate last night that they need to play us for a confidence, It's sad how I've become so pessimistic about this fixture

We will gut them like a fish. Van Gaal's face will go the colour of a half-sucked gobstopper

I like the cut of your jib

There's some fantastic turns of phrase on there. I particularly liked the "a sort of television ringworm."
It sums him up perfectly.

"He's like a David Brent of the valleys. Your mates first, pundit second. Probably an entertainer third". Classic line.
