Joseph Joe Ward

I saw him play at Old Trafford.

3 Appearances 0 goals

Fair play to him, not many players have played for the biggest club on each side of the border.

That's true. His goals to games ratio for Clyde led me to believe Villa had unearthed another Scottish gem. Sadly it was not to be.

That was like Scott Murray who we bought from Fraserburgh. Evening Mail headline read "Villa in record transfer swoop". It was a world record transfer fee - for a Highland League player - of £35K. Played for us four times although did well afterwards at Bristol City. Can't remember anything about him on the pitch, but that headline stays with me.

He played at right back in the first game of 1996/97 at Hillsborough and that's about all I remember.

We also paid the record transfer fee for the Scottish Third Division to sign Neil Tarrant from Ross Country. £250,000 I believe.
He never played a first team game and went on the do a grand tour of northern non-league clubs.

That's what you get when you shop at Dingwall. Never any more than a place for knackered Caley Jags to stop off before reaching Brora.

I'd imagine we've set a few division records, what with our disastrous shopping trips in various European second divisions. We've long been a club incapable of spending big but astonishingly adept at over-paying for mediocrity.

I remember him scoring a rare goal for us at Old Trafford and then giving the V's to the Man Ure fans in the Stretford End!

My main memory of Cox is him screaming at us in joy at the final whistle at Wembley in 1994 after he'd come on as sub.

I agree with first 4 but I can't forget Phil King and his penalty v Inter.

He played the pass, while sitting on the floor, from which Tony Daley ran from his own half and squeezed the ball between the keeper and post against Luton later that season as well.

I've loved that goal and that season.
