Who was that French midfielder - I think under O'Leary - who everyone thought was the reincarnation of Viera, mainly on account of we never saw him actually play so just filled in the blanks with our own fantasies? I think we wanted him to recreate some amazing partnership he'd had with the Djemba twins but he only managed about 10 games for us.

That was the one. No-one could work out why he wasn't played and, in the absence of any evidence, built him up into a world beater.

Ian Olney - from further above - was great. A lone striker who scored about 1 in 5 for us but left all those gaps for Platt to run into. A proper false number nine in that he rarely troubled the net but boy did he know how to drag defenders away. I reckon that's why Cascarino never worked. We didn't need a poacher we needed someone to open up spaces.

I saw Berson play one game for us, away at Middlesbrough, ran the game for us, quite superb, Boro didn't get close to him all game, I really thought we'd found a gem.

We lost 3-0 mind.
