32 years on - without doubt the most unforgettable 48 hours of my life (with the exception of my wedding day - but this was 14 years before I even met my wife).  Ten years before I'd seen us come out of the old third division at the second attempt.  And now we were Champions of Europe - I was born into a Villa supporting family and flew the flag for all my relations to Rotterdam.   26th May was my Mum's birthday (RIP Mum) and I'll never forget how she'd been to the paper shop to make sure I could read the Mail as soon as I got home.  Tears in my eyes typing this - everyone else who was there knows exactly how I feel - Aston Villa - Champions of Europe.

Watching the final last night made me realise how lucky I was to be there at the time and also it made me long for the time when those big nights could come back.

I feel the same, so lucky that I was able to be there on that night. I also watched last nights game thinking we are now a million miles from ever competing at that level.

At the final whistle I sat on the terraces and sobbed my heart out whilst there was mayhem around me I looked at the skies and remembered my grandads words  that "we will be back"after we had been relegated to the old 3rd div and my moms "that bloody football team"after I had come back from anfield with blood covered t shirt.
You were right grandad we are back and hey mom that bloody football team is now the fucking champions of Europe.
A team nurtered and moulded from home grown talent and astute signings no big time Charlie's no cheating overpaid prats that we see nowadays just a bunch of guys who gave there all for the greatest club in the world roared on by the greatest supporters in the world.

Quite simply the greatest night of my life never ever will it ever be bettered.

We really need to get cracking. We're now 9 behind Real Madrid. Should be level by 2023 if we pull our finger out.

Even the pics have gone now. Gutted. You lying tw*t, Hooker.

What's all that about? Is the cartoon at the bottom of the page someone taking the piss?

The Ted Goff one? No idea. The images were available previously. Gone forever now and I no longer have copies. The were sent to me by Tony Barton's son.

I honestly thought, at the time,  that we were going to win the European Cup again and again. Still  hope is there. I think a day out for the replica shirt today!

I remember feeling genuinely gutted at our performance in the following season. European Super Cup winners, knocked out by a superstar Juventus side in the European Cup Quarter finals, got to the QF of the FA Cup and finished top 6 in the league, securing a UEFA Cup place.

They're gone from that page, but the code leads you to them. Stand by, incoming.
