A Touch of Villa Class

Currently doing research on examples of Villas class through our beautiful history...for various reasons one of which is to educate further my  son born after 82.

My starter for 10 that sets us apart from other clubs  is Villa V Barcelona when Cryuff ( arguably one of the best ever footballers) played for them and absolutely slaughtered us whilst on the pitch and left to a standing ovation from Villa Fans - we went on to win as soon as he left the pitch - Quality Villa as always. Please post more stories, articles , rumours ,  pics or links that make you feel proud to be a Villain .

Although not there to see it, I believe when Fat Frank Lampard broke the Chavski all-time scoring record with a couple against us at VP he received a standing ovation from the Villa fans as he left the pitch at the end of the match.

Also Jimmy Bullard being carried off injured and in tears after only just coming back after a career-threatening injury receiving a standing ovation from all around VP.

Notwithstanding Acorns.  I'll think of more as the day progresses.

...great shout and I too remember all those you mentioned...strange these days that players/supporters on the receiving end of  respect  by opposing teams don't seem to acknowledge graciousness/courtesy bestowed upon them  ...

The greatest AVFC match I have ever been to. Blackburn in 2010 had a lot of goals but none of the tension the Tranmere game had.

I remember that too I was one of those applauding.  I thought Spartak played some brilliant football that night.  I hate to see the Villa lose but, that night we were well beaten by a much better side.

When I look back at our history I think it oozes pure class.when we was relegated into the 3rd div we went down with our heads held high not bleating about refereeing decisions, or bad signings or suspensions we just went down and vowed to come back and boy did we come back with that lion roaring.
Tommy dochertys quote that "if you hung out 11 villa shirts to dry on a Sunday morning 10,000 fans would turn up to watch them dry". For me summed us up.
I really cannot ever remember any type of scandal to do with this club like the tevez saga at west ham and then at man city or the cantona jumping into the crowd.there has never been any bullying of referees like fergy and his players did at manure.
No betting scandals or drug scandals. Every fan I talk to all say that the f.a.cup semis should still. Be at villa park because it's a proper ground and with a superb atmosphere.
Go back even further and tell your son about Frederick rinder, William mcgregor and the refusal of the nazi salute to hitler will some this club up.
