What do you all think is the 'proper' badge?

I don't really regard any as the "proper" badge but I prefer the round one to the cresty ones. As a Brummie-Scot I preferred it when the lion looked more Caledonian and less chubby too.

I do wonder if part of the reason the badge was changed was to do with copyright? I know that, for instance, both Manchester clubs have removed the city crest from their badges so they can copyright the image and clamp down on copies and imitations. It maybe that we had to change ours so that it is sufficiently different from the Scottish Lion Rampant to be copyrighted?

Crayons at the ready...

Whilst I agree that the players who wear the shirt are more important than the shirt itself, it does send a message out if you have a shit kit. We all think it so players must do too. Cheap kit, made by a supplier more associated with lower leagues says "small time". A great kit made by a top brand says "we want the best of everything and are coveted by premium companies".

The message is very important.

I don't mind who makes the kit as long as the Villa get the best deal available.

I have to say though that the 2 Macron shirts I've bought for my lad have been dreadful quality.

The proper badge is just the rampant lion and the motto. Crests etc change with the latest fashions. It's about time we stripped it down to the basics again. A bit like what Liverpool's badge now.

I may also be in a minority here but I've always thought the motto "Prepared" was a bit lame.

Just a personal opinion. I'm not massively keen on it. At least now you know I'm not always positive about everything to do with the club!

'Prepared' is the best motto of any club in the land.

The 1975 one. Anyone who thinks differently is just wrong. End of. Fact. Lock the thread.

Switch the FC at the bottom for 'Prepared' and we'd win the league again, the badge would be that good and have that big an effect.

It was also manufactured by adults in Italy, being paid a reasonable wage, rather than by children in Asian sweatshops, like the clothing you're so fond of. Another reason to be proud of our great club.

I'd be very pleasantly amazed if this was true.  Can somebody check a label?

I happen to agree with you. Reminds me of the boy scouts. For what it's worth, the round badge gets my vote. Nice and simple, no star, no motto, just the words Aston Villa FC.

Nike have their faults, and I wouldn't particularly want to go that route again. But they do simple kits well.

In contrast, Macron try to cram too much in.  The Macron men, the crap collars and unnecessary detail near the collars.

It does look like tat -even on professional athletes. Which takes some doing.

Their Napoli and Lazio kits are generally first class, but they appear to be the exception. We get palmed off with the inferior gear, like the other 99% of their clients.  If it's any consolation, look at the Leeds away kit.  Some poor beggar always has it worse.
