Only Learner or maybe it was Fox,could sign a player for 9 million and agree to a release clause 7.1 million .No wonder the club was in such a mess when Xia took over

The twitter thing is just waiting to go wrong.

I was wondering, re Gana who he mentioned, why on earth sign a player and have a release clause for what you paid for him?

They made an exchange rate mistake?  We didn't exactly have the sharpest knives in the drawer in charge last year.

The accountants on here can put me right if I'm wrong but I think transfer fees are written off over the course of a contract. So while the lower fee might be due to our Championship status, it might also be because it's the remainder of the transfer fee.

Probably an agent who had watched our 'progress' over 3-4 years & made sure there was a relegation clause in favour of his client...

Looks like Kenny Jackett has left Wolves, wonder how big they go in who they get in.

Seems pretty straight forward about the release clause. In the same way the players lose half their wages because we were relegated, relegation has either slashed his release figure, or more likely, the release figure only exists because we were relegated. The club covers itself against relegation in contracts, hardly a shock players do as well.

Yes the fee is written off over the term of the contract, that is an accounting matter.
The sell on fee is what ever is negotiated, a clause in the contract just give the selling club the right to demand that the sell on fee is met. They can still sell at a lower price if the player is happy to leave.
Simple maths buy player for 5 years @ 5million.
After 2 years 2 million has been written off, leaving 3 to write off.if they sell the player for 2 then they have to write off another 1 million that year.
I am not an accountant.

It's also important to note that our immediate competition is hardly lashing the cash about. Newcastle we know are going to up there and Norwich I have no doubt will be challenging. But the great majority of our competition are hardly flush with talent or resources and I reject the notion that we are simply going to pick up from where we left off last season with Black "in charge".

Wolves say 'ah bin ya, got any scrap metal me mon?"

Just spat my coffee out 😂😂

Am I the only one that finds the Wolves one a very weird way of flushing Mendes represented players through a feeder system? Nothing about it strikes true. This Benfica guy for 25m despite interest from Liverpool. Hardly the types that are going to roll their sleeves up in the Championship. i might be wrong but it all seems weird.

My Wolves mates seem to suspect it's some way of getting work permits for players who aren't likely to be PL starters, I don't know enough about the rules to argue with them one way or another.

Jesus, they are real. Fuck me.

This isn't going to end well.

You on about the tweets posted above?

No. He had a pop at Guzan for leaving, if his English was good it would look amateurish, as it isn't good it looks faintly ridiculous as well.

I hope one of the other board members can talk him out of posting on Twitter.

No, I think you're spot on. Wolves are apparently interested in some bloke called Forshaw from Boro for £2m, which does not suggest that Man City style world domination spending is really the plan. I wouldn't be surprised if something has been lost in translation and if Talisca happens at all he'll sign for Liverpool but be loaned to Wolves for work permit reasons.

There are no tweets that refer to Guzan, just the one above to "D now G", which appears to refer to Gana.

Who is 'D' then?

Not that it makes much difference, poorly constructed tweets from players make us look daft, let alone the owner.
