We can do something like this, just add Birmingham to our badge instead of ever having Prepared back. It would look really ace......

Thought West Ham was in Essex?

a really silly question but why would we need to build a 70-80k capacity stadium?

We don't. But if we can do and have the finances to do it then we should.

why?

arsenal have been a global brand for ages and have 60k
man ure have 76k
spuds will have 61k
city have 55k
chelsea want to have 60k

but if we can afford it we should build a 70-80k stadium  :o

fuck me ive heard it all now

Some of those clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, MU depending on pricing) could sell a lot more than their capacity allows and Man City have to compete with three big clubs in their catchment area. And capacity isn't the only issue. The current ground needs redevelopment. If we could build a new ground in the city centre then I'd seriously consider doing it.

We need to wait and see if we have the money of the clubs you've just mentioned.

They built over the road on the Aston Park side though?  And you have the land between the road and the houses on the Witton Lane side. I'd hate to think we're stuck with the DE stand in it's current form for eternity.

Look at the size of the Trinity Road from the pitch to the part that's on Aston Park and imagine how far that would be jutting over Witton Lane. Remember that we had the whole of the old forecourt to build on whereas on Witton Lane we've only got the pavement.

This is all very entertaining. The idea of a stadium big enough to house our record attendance on a weekly basis fills me with joy.

I was at the anniversary games in the Olympic stadium on Saturday and was spitting with anger at the destruction of the Olympic legacy. Maybe we should get the council to bid for the commonwealth games and then bequeath us a stadium for £50 a year.

The only place really worth leaving Aston for would be somewhere nearer the city centre. Otherwise, what's the point?
With a new name too, Birmingham Villa?

Like it. Except i'd maybe try Aston instead of Birmingham.

Moving the ground is not financially feasible unless it was out of town.  Any new stadium would only achieve planning permission if adequate public transport was provided to get the vast majority of supporters to and from the ground within a reasonable time.  That is a massive undertaking in a built up area.  The cost of land of sufficient area in the city would be huge.

Although from 1998 and having been revoked, the Aston local plan from here http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/astonplan is an interesting read and gives some background as to how the ground developed from that time.

I think there is still support from the Council to redevelop the ground to increase the capacity to 50,000 which would approximately equate to a stand the size of the Holte at the Witton end.  Increasing beyond this could be achieved possibly by moving the pitch away from the Holte to allow better connection between the Trinity and Witton Lane stands and the new North stand where the build space is better than the cramped existing connections with the Holte.  The facilities at the rear of the North stand could be rebuilt on purchased land nearby to create space.  Purchase of all of the properties on Nelson Road could be considered as I would think owners of the houses (approx. 75) would accept an over market value payment.  If you said £200k each, this would only be £15m.  One thing that would increase capacity would be limited safe standing.

Key to increasing capacity is drastically improving public transport to the ground to take match day traffic away from the area.  Some form of park and ride from various locations would seem to be a good step forward but improvement in the train services would provide more capacity.

To add to our fantasies, I'd suggest the capacity increase could be achieved via safe standing the whole Holte End in a 1 tier structure as per the Dortmund model. Improving public transport for me would be a high frequency tram from the City centre connecting to the Advanced manufacturing hub and Villa Park and Alexandra Stadium. I've said on here before you could make better use of the plot we do have by moving the pitch backwards 40-50 yards. All pie in the sky but we can dream. I would consider a site nearer the City Centre but never near the NEC.

I think with all the road works around the Aston area, we ought to start a page on how to get to and from Villa Park without waiting in traffic for 2 hours

Just an update, to anyone who drives past the Albion ground and then turns left down Island Road, there will be road works at the bottom of that hill that will last 18 weeks from today!

So our journey to and from the match will be interesting!

I've worked in construction most of my life. An extra tier on the DE is totally doable. It wouldn't be all that complicated.  Whether there is the will to spend the money is a different matter. Maybe if The good Dr gets his dreams of European football you never know. Maybe just maybe...........I can dream!
