I'm very pleased with Di Matteo's shoes. They look like an expensive pair of Italian hand mades, and they go nicely with his suit, which is cut well and I would suspect is from Milan or Saville Row. Dr Xia on the other hand, is wearing shitty shoes, the shitty shoed bastard, and has a suit that looks like it's from Ted Baker, as they tend to go for the fake pocket square and lapel badge combo.  His tie also isn't pushed all the way up, and he's sporting an Hermes belt which is a style no-no in the business world.

Based on these fashion faux pas, I'n going to say that he's a wrong un and we're going to hell in a hand cart.

Notwithstanding your comments, he is, beyond any reasonable doubt, the best dressed Chinese man I have ever seen.

Many years ago I remember being in Venice and a cortege of expensive cars pulled up and various bodyguards piled out to give the impression that whoever was being protected was incredibly wealthy, they then got out, a Chinese woman who looked a million dollars and a little Chinese man who looked like he'd borrowed the clothes of a much larger man who had died a long time ago. I reckon Marks and Spencer will make a killing when they decide to become well turned out.

Anyway, as you were.

Sounds very promising.

Daft comment if you ask me.  Makes him look a total fool if he doesn't back it up.  Just be understated.

What a fucking shock. You finding something to be miserable about. Why on earth do you follow Villa if it gives you so much grief?

Of course if he had kept it understated LTA would be complaining about having a bland owner with no ambition.

Is LTA related to Cooper's Injury/silhillvilla by any chance?

Couldn't fault things so far. Good to have something positive to think about on a day the Premier fixtures come out without us - a reminder of the first steps...though having said that I half expect it to take maybe a second season to get back. There's a lot to do.

In reply to damon's point from yesterday I think this is an important quote:

‘In this [football] business these days, money is important and I’ll certainly support Villa as much as I can. But it’s not only about money. You have to really understand the business and how to manage a club as a business and I have the team in place to do that too.’

I would use the words 'cautiously optimistic'. A lot of fans were using the word 'excited' last close season.

Proceed with caution. The more games we win, the more promising it all becomes. If we go up at the first attempt, we'll know it's working out, because to turn this mess around will take incredible organisation, togetherness and hard work.

Proceed with caution is right. I will be happy if we just win a game again.
didnt we proceed with caution in every game whilst Black was in charge? How many games did that approach win us? 😉

Speaking of who, has he been officially fucked off yet?

The only thing that disappoints me is that he gave this interview to the Daily Heil rather than to the BBC a local paper.

Thanks for copying that link :)

I think that's where Randy Lerner didn't get it. I think he thought he could just throw some money at it and it would just happen. It didn't happen and then it showed up his total naivety in running a football club.

I think Xia totally understands that football is a business and good businesses need to be run well financially. Knowing how and when to invest in your own business is key, together with good financial planning.

Dr X, welcome to Aston Villa. The grand old lady of English football. Treat her well and you will be rewarded.

You've talked the talk. Now let's see you walk the walk. Over to you my friend. The hall is rented, the orchestra engaged. It's now time to see if you can dance.

I have lived that scene many times in China too PW! I attended a lot of events in the steel industry and the wealthiest person in the room was always the most shabbily dressed, greasy haired chain smoker.

When I left China M&S were seen as irrelevant re clothing, though were gaining popularity for their coffee shop, wine and bakery. I was lurking around the opening of a big Shanghai store and they had airlifted a squadron of Brits from Hong Kong. It was obvious they didn't have a clue about real China. They were positively mobbed compared to Next though - their shop in central Shanghai felt like a money laundering operation.

I like the interview and the ambition. It is a huge positive that we can now start planning in earnest. This feels like the first glow of a new dawn. Let's hope for some sunshine

When compared to the miserable nonsense of the past few years where we were all asked to temper our expectations, not of anything fantastical, but just being a competitive football club, I love the new rhetoric. I want to believe again in a Bright Future and not one where the window to it has boarded up with wood and nails.
