Can't say I'd ever heard of fried chicken or watermelon being classed as racist terms.

Hard to see at what point do comments that are based around stereotypes become racist, I guess anything which is classed as demeaning or belittling.

Sorry but that's bollocks, if you think it's a big deal then you should have just said that you didn't realise and edited the post, instead you've acted like I'm singling you out when, as I've said I never called you racist, I accused you of writing something that was casual racism, whether you intended it or not.

Look at the pictures Dave has posted, spend a few minutes searching on the net, ask some of the black friends you have and look at what Percy typed about his wife's reaction.  I don't really care what you intended you did fall into a racial stereotype that is pretty well known as a slur, if you're really so upset by the notion then show a little bit of horror/distress at it being taken that way instead of acting like you'd rather start a fight.

Through my work I have to do a fair bit of investigation into bullying, and I can tell you that I've seen kids get suspended from schools in the UK (and the US) for comments like yours so whatever you think it wasn't a smart comment and your subsequent reaction is even less smart, just wind your neck in and move on.

A couple of seasons ago I thought Pat Murphy had it in for us and was buying into the "lovely ickle Baggies" myth they peddle and going over to the Dark Side. Then his interviews with McMumbles started to make sense when TSM2 couldn't ramble his way out of direct questions and I must admit that I now listen to Murphy with interest and tend to believe what he is saying.

One of the reasons I like him both personally and professionally is that he says what he thinks and believes. He doesn't do it for Facebook likes or page hits, he has opinions he sticks to and if he says he thinks something will happen it's because he believes it will, not to stir up controversy.

i have never really understood the antipathy towards him on here when, in my opinion he seems to be doing his job with some level of journalistic integrity.

My take too. He would rather be covering premier league games at Villa Park than division 2 stuff.

As I have said, I am upset and horrified at you taking it the way you have.

I won't use the term 'fried chicken' again. Like I said before you live you learn. I didn't know about any of the connotations you have suggested l, I don't feel bad about this. A fair few posters have said they weren't aware either.

The original comment was part of a much wider post and was a reflection on both premiership footballers regularly tweeting about fast food alongside our player disregard for professionality.

You'll be pleased that my neck is suitably wound in, at risk of you windmilling.

I find both racism and your accusation abhorrent.

Wow! Just caught up with this thread and eventually found the "racist" comment?   I, for one, recognise the chicken comment but have never heard the water melon one. Didn't come across as racist to me.

I'm not into golf so hadn't picked up on the Woods Garcia thing. If it had been football, tennis or rugby I would have known.

As I said earlier the divide on fast food types must be bigger outside of London, we're pretty well integrated here. Except me, I only eat free range meat and you'd struggle to find that in Chicken Cottage.

I've said I won't use the term (sorry need to repeat this for posterity) 'fried chicken' again. As you've seen it was a reflection on their lack of professionality and premiership footballers predeliction for fast food (see Andy Weimann and 'flamey')

Was it not a post, slagging off the 4 players that are the epitome of all that is wrong with AVFC, and the attitude of footballers in general?
As an aside, im quite surprised nobody picked up on "hollering".
