Plus what would have convinced Di Matteo to stick around and what looks increasingly likely agreeing to be the new manager if this deal wasn't happening?

If Xia bamboozled Hollis then why could he not have bamboozled Di Matteo? Also, RDM has nothing to gain by publicly ruling himself out at this stage.

I guess we'll know soon enough. I'm assuming Di Matteo wouldn't take the job if there's no certainty of who he'll be working for, so either The Heil or The Scum are wrong.

It may be RDM has been told he's the man whether it goes through or not.

If it turns out to be true that he's been blocked as the buyer then that's a good thing. If there's any doubt about his financial bona fides, I'd rather find out now than when we're emulating Portsmouth as a result of it.
my thoughts exactly Paulie. Bit light on details though, the mail story. I guess it's good that neither sides seem to be experiencing any leaks. All we can do is wait for the official announcements

I have been trying to keep quiet but am getting thoroughly pissed off by the race to the bottom on this thread. "Who can be most pessimistic?", "who is the angriest?", "who can do the most made up and miserable post,".

It's been shit for a few years. I get that. But fucking hell some people are piss the bed drama queens.

Sorry for double post, but the other thing I find a wee bit strange about this mail story is that just a couple of weeks ago, they sent a reporter to interview him (the only one of the major dailies to do so, apparantly) and he was convinced the guy was genuine, citing documentary evidence of funds in a holding account. I don't see how that squares with this new unsubstantiated claim. I'd stop short of calling it bollocks, because we just don't know, but it does seem odd that a mere matter of days ago they were convinced he had the cash, now they're claiming that he more than likely does not.

I've heard that if this sale falls through Randy is so keen to be shot of us he's going to put us in a black bin liner and leave us outside a charity shop.

IF the mail online think he's failing the test, then why is this piece a small comment in a column about 'B' teams in the football league.
I know we're not a premier league team but a club the size of Villa in the turmoil of a prospective owner failing the owners test would be big news, particularly in this gap of no news between the end of the season and start of the Euro's.
To me this is just guesswork in a piece small enough that people won't read but if it happens they can claim they broke the news on June 1st.
Possibly that's wishful thinking, but this is just comes across as guesswork

I'm thoroughly relaxed about it myself. I'm entirely happy with both outcomes of ownership.

If it's Randy then we'll keep dropping through the leagues until we hit a level where we can regularly win again which will be great.

If it's Dr Xia with no money then great, at least he'll put a management team in that can fight our way out of the league with our own resources of just gate and Sky money. This was Randy greatest failure, how did he let clubs like Bournemouth, Watford, Leicester and Albion etc overtake us? We don't need a benefactor just a proper management team on and off the pitch utilising our own resources. Randy wasted our money just as much as his own.

Dr Xia with money and we'll walk this league. Eventually.

I agree, the universal position seems to be that Xia is on his way to the UK for face-to-face meetings with the panel.  If that is the case why would they have already told Lerner that he's going to fail.  What I could accept is that there are things they're unsure about and they want to meet with him and his proposed board to discuss them.

I renewed my season ticket yesterday so this means the deal will collapse.
Conned again!

This new 'rumour' is just one man spouting off, I don't think it can be taken as a sign of anything more than that. The first story at least had a face to face interview to back it up.

Until the deal is done, or otherwise, any hack with space to fill can write anything he wants as long as he is careful not to claim it as fact.

On TalkSport this morning both Danny Kelly and Ray Wilkins claimed that they had been told by well-placed sources (yeah, I know, I know) that Xia's takeover wasn't going to go through. Apparently not necessarily due to Xia not having the money, more about the lack of transparency about where the money's coming from.

Their 'well-placed source' is the Daily Heil, which also used the phrase 'well-placed source'. I'm not saying there's nothing in these rumours, but they are just rumours, and I believe them about as much as I believe anything right now, i.e. I don't.

I'm tempted to misspell sources so we can have another punathon. That would be more entertaining than this speculating over speculation about speculation.

It wasn't. This was said in relation to the report in the Mail, but both were very specific that they'd be told the same thing by 2 independent sources. Wilkins was vague, but Kelly said that he'd heard this from a 'prominent Midlands businessman.' Or something along those lines.
