I think Hollis wanted to let the fans know what was happening in relation to the takeover and may have been a little hurried with the original 'they own five companies' error on the initial statement. I suspect the whole saga normally takes this long, that there is nothing wrong with the deal, that the financial details were handed in last Monday but it takes time to talk between different countries and cultures. In the meantime, Tony chats excitedly but because it's doesn't happen within a week, one twat of a talk sport journo takes a punt and tells us that there are obstacles and tries to gain some exposure. I think the deal WILL go through, that RDM will be appointed in the next week.

It was amazing how he went from on the rocks, to ok but obstacles, to assured of the finance etc. Basically I think the league are looking hard at Banfil and Samuelson, and rightly so.

Or maybe nothing at all has actually changed and that this is the normal process. But because no news can only be bad news this is starting to take on a life of its own. And because this bloke is Chinese it has to be shady and in danger of falling through.

The stasis is IMHO the last vestige of the Lerner naivety era.

Any club worth its salt would have been lobbying the Football League like mad - look you numbnuts, screw waiting for the playoffs, we're going to be in your jurisdiction next year, here's all the data, now get on with it please before we hit you with restraint of trade suits.

But no we just sit around passively and wait, burning crucial restructuring and recruitment time.

No blame on the new regime here, it's not in their gift to expedite.

Do you honestly believe Lerner/Hollis are the ones delaying the completion of the sale?

I don't think the Owners adn Directors is taking an undue amount of time. We are not officially in the football league until June. I genuinely don't think anything other than things are progressing at a usual pace.

As for how genuine he is, the Leagues' tests will tell us nothing/ We will know a lot more as July and August progress.

Not worried about the scrutiny the more the better but not appointing a manager is more of an issue, with all the problems we've had with players it is crucial that the new appointee has as much time as possible to sort out the on field mess.

To be fair Dave, the Football League can't really say anything until we're officially one of theirs on June 2nd can they?

I think there should be a third poll option of 'meh'.

For players we usually want them 'in the shirt on the pitch'.  For new owners I guess it's 'in the boardroom waving around a pile of cash'.  Until he/they takeover and show us what they're all about I can't feel positive/negative about them.  I don't have enough information.  None of us do.  I'm a bit concerned that this chap has appeared from nowhere, has very opaque finances and while further due diligence is carried out the managerial appointment hangs in the air.  Roberto di Matteo is not my first choice to be manager.  He probably wouldn't be my second or third choice either.  But if that's who they choose then we all have to get behind him....

Quite

As long as he's not currently discharging a sentence for the list of criminal activities described by the test he's pretty much good to go.

Even prior convictions don't count if they're "spent" according to the law. The test is written to match up against whichever part of the relevant act so as not to leave the PL/FL open to accusations of restriction of trade.

It isn't going to happen but I have a half dream of what might happen.

Brian Little takes Tony Xia to the edge if the pitch on the half way line.  They survey the empty, sunlit stadium and the perfect pitch.  Brian addresses Tony.

BL)  That's all yours now Dr Xia.

TX)  Call me Tony.  Yes I am very proud.

BL) (gesturing) That is the Holte End.  It will always be the Holte End.  That is the Witton Lane Stand and behind us is the Trinity Stand. That is what they always will be.  But there (points) is the North Stand.

TX) Thank you Brian.  I value this information.  These are things I need to know.

BL) What you really need to know Tony, is something the last owner never understood.  This place, this football club offer you immortality and world renown.  Keep your promises and one day the North Stand will be the Tony Xia Stand and forty thousand men women and children will be singing your name, just like they sang mine.

TX) (deeply moved) Thank you Brian.  I will try to be worthy.

They leave the pitch in silence.

Just a dream.

I think the biggest mistake in all this was realeasing the news in the first place. As alluded to, I think they were keen to appease the fans that something was happening but in reality that were too quick and it's created this limbo. Unfortunately, fans want instant answers to everything!

The BBC gossip column is stating that the Swansea takeover is only just nearing completion, maybe these things just take a lot longer than we want them to or anticipate.

A lot of the sorting you're talking about would only be done when they're back for pre-season training anyway.
