You spotted that I also watched RoboCop on Netflix. "What's your name son?"  (Twirls large handgun, snaps it inside his leg, turns visor and eye sharp left) "Hepburn Murphy Sir".

I said last week that there would be an information vacuum until the results of the 'Fit and Proper' test are known.  Information on the deal beyond what it was last week can only come from very close sources at either end.  From what has been reported previously, the buyer had to demonstrate beyond doubt that he had funds.  For that to change, it would have to be a move at the buyers end.  Can't see that myself after all the interviews that Xia has done.

On the 'Fit and Proper' test, at what point do you go to the leagues for ratification.  Do you have to have a signed contract between the parties with a proviso that it is subject to league approval i.e. you are at a point where both parties have reached final agreement and there would be penalties for breaking that agreement.

Well to be honest Carson Yeung was seen as "a little doubtful" before he bought Blues by many of their fans and he sailed through the fit and proper test. I think Xia has the funds to buy Aston Villa but I am not at all sure he is going to back up his many promises re the clubs future with solid finance.

We shall have to wait and see on the Leagues findings.

I think the fit and proper findings are a formality.  The real test will come for Tony Xia when RDM (or whoever) asks him to sign a cheque for £40 million.  That is when we shall have a better idea of what the future has in store.

Is he related to Robocop?  He's also a Murphy.

Well if that situation does occur and Xia isn't amenable to that request (by whoever) it will be kept very quiet by the club and will be treated as classified information.

That is when the type of manager we appoint is important.

If it is RDM, you have to ask yourself why would he come to Villa.  The most obvious answer is that he would be promised funding to rebuild the club and he would ride the wave of a resurgent Villa back into the PL where he wants to be.  Villa back in the PL going forward is a good managerial job to be in and possibly the best that RDM could hope for at this point in time.  I do not think at top 8 club would take that chance with him.  Outside of the PL, I think his reputation is higher and could get better jobs but I think he wants to be in the PL.

I do not see RDM being happy with the job if the funding dries up and Villa just muddle along.  I think in this situation, he is the type of person that would let it be known as such and be looking elsewhere for a job.  Compare that with Lambert and Lerner.  Lambert knew that he would not get a better job than Villa if he did not succeed at Villa.  He therefore had to stay silent on how Lerner was running things.

I think we need a manager that is strong enough to stand up to the owner but not that strong that he sees himself as being too good for the job.  RDM seems to fit this profile but only time will tell if he is a good manager for Villa and has the resources to work with.  The funding is very important and is the real driver as to the manager we appoint.  On the point that Xia has been seduced by RDM winning wining the CL, I think this is a cheap (easy) comment to make.  I think most people recognise that Xia doesn't have much in depth knowledge of football and therefore is relying on his support team for advice.

Do you mean Wyness OMVF?  Would he have been the one who put Di Matteo forward for Xia's consideration?

From the names being suggested, there seems to be quite a number of people advising on this buyout.  I do not know how they have shortlisted the managers  Has it been instigated by Villa and Xia and his team taken it from there, I don't know.  How does it work these days?  Do they put out feelers or do agents of managers contact clubs and say their man might be interested?  Too much to speculate on.

The PL and FL may want to appear to be dead hard but it is just tub thumping. Carson Yeung actually had a conviction in the far east for a finance related crime that involved three or four thousand pounds, but this was discounted when he faced the test because whatever the offence was had been decriminalised in the UK earlier in the decade.

A 'millionaire' breaking the law for a few measly thousand should have been a bit of a clue, but in effect the FL/PL bent over backwards to let him in.
