Nobody's interested in England's largest landlocked county? I find that very hard to believe. What's not interesting about significant distance from the sea?

There's no coast whatsoever! Think about that. And it's large.

It's not the most sophisticated chat-up line but I haven't had any other offers...

I opened the bowling for Wrekin District Council's cup winning cricket team in 1989. So at least one of us cares...

Also, it's probably not me making you tired; the eight cans of Frosty Jack's will be taking their toll, you hot bastard.

Relax. I am entirely comfortable that we share interests on Villa and cricket and Shropshire (and probably conman) and you fucking hate my political views and everything I stand for. I get that quite a bit. Well perhaps not that particular set, but the general sentiment...

I'm pretty sure, having seen what they do to foxes there, despite the law having been changed, that they're pretty Brexitish there.

See, conman, all this Shropshire chat is a right laugh!

Either that, or he's still hugging an agenda with ManU and Big Ron. Gosh.

Why are we talking about the Welsh county of Salop in a thread about Brummies?

Well, speaking for myself, I come from an nth generation Villa family, but my dad had to leave Birmingham for work reasons when I was 5 and we never moved back. Shropshire in 1988-1996 was as close as the family ever got, but I was at university in Exeter by then, and I flew the nest permanently and moved to London in 1993 and have been there ever since.

Still have huge family ties in the area, and love travelling up to see them and the Villa, but otherwise I'm a Brummie by birth only.

When people ask me where I'm from, I say I'm everywhere and nowhere baby...

And as for the previous bit of off-topic on accents, mine is all over the bleeding place - bits of Midlands, North, South West and South East. Involuntarily pick up the accent of whomever I'm talking to usually. Which is an embarrassing habit when spotted.

The other common brummie one that I've had to train myself out of is island instead of roundabout.  I much prefer our term but it causes far too many blank stares to be useful outside the city.
ha ha- we say Island for roundabout in Nuneaton. Always illicits bemused looks from the Indian cabbies in brisbane when I tell them to 'go straight over the island' near where I live.

Similar story to us, although I did get back to Brum for university purposes.

My wife does that, accent assimilation. She's from Essex but five minutes talking with my Dad and she sounds like Barry from Auf Wiedersehen,  Pet.
