I'm from Northamptonshire and we'd say, "crash the ash" for, "may I have one of your delicious cigarettes?"
we used to say that in birmingham when we were 12 years old

Ya bunch of jessies - we were 10! I'd offer you out, but I get so out of breath these days...

I taught English in Brazil for a while. Try as I might I couldn't get the students to stop saying "choynge" instead of "change."

I like northern slang a lot. My ex wife, who was from Bolton, always referred to the central heating as the pipes, as in 'I'm cold, put pipes on'.

My contribution is one that I believe started as Midlands slang but migrated beyond our region...Mardy.

Still, living in the US there are so many Englishisms that are foreign to our cousins...my Puerto Rican/American wife has started announcing to her Yankee colleagues that she is a bit peckish, much to their confusion and my amusement.

Barton Street would be at number one for me.

I'm not sure if Barton Street would beat 'Nam's Hester's Way in a game of shit area Top Trumps

Hesters Way, Whaddon and St Paul are my Cheltenham top 3.

I can't believe mom, as opposed to mum, hasn't been mentioned.

I have lost a lot of my accent having lived all over but the only bit I consciously gave up was tuth instead of tooth. I was so widely ridiculed at university by both the public schoolboys and normal but non- brummy types that I caved in.  Conversely, when I tell my family I'm going to Birmingham rather than to town they give me a look that says 'you've changed'. Island, outdoor, all round the Wrekin and others I stopped using because people didn't understand me.

Villa and the way we speak are both things that meant more to me when I left, a bit of home to hold onto. The first match I got to after I left a Brum, I filled up when the Holte End sang 'Alan Roit, Roit, Roit, Roit'.

And nobody I have ever met  other than a Brummie knows what a pikelet is.  Or pigs pudding.
Me and ar kid used to have pikelets for tea.
After which, we might go to the outdoor to get some tinnies.

This Xia chap get's more suspect by the day.

Quote
Whats behind China's racist whitewashing advert?

The owner of the detergent has also commented
"I don't know much about the advertisement," the owner of Qiaobi laundry detergent, who identified himself as Mr Xia, told BBC Chinese's Grace Tsoi.
He said he did not realise it was racist until it was pointed out to him: "To be honest, I didn't really pay that much attention to the advertisement."

Here in the Black Country ...
We ate pikelets not crumpets. Sometimes for we tay.
My brother is ar kid or chap.
"scratchings" from the chippy are called bits - "chock us some bits on" - nice with a scallop.
Pubs used to have outdoors. You could buy pop, crisps or bags of suck.
Roundabouts are islands.
Two's up on a fag but dow duck arse it.

The last three lines are all brummie things too. Except 'bags of suck'. You can keep that one, you yam yam freaks ;-)

Was the pop man coming round only a Midlands thing or done elsewhere?
