Not really interested in Coventry, can we get back on topic.
I haven't had a Topic for years. Do they still sell them?

Highfields, lovely place! I worked there for six months, felt like 12. Grotty, horrible place.

Hillfields presumably?

Growing up in a leafy town ten miles away Hillfields gained a reputation of being a cross between the worst parts of Baltimore and downtown Aleppo.

It's still the only place in the world that I've ever been mugged, so I think our youthful caution was probably about right.

Lived there for 6 years in the mid 60,s
I was the only Villa fan at my school and our trajectory's were opposite us going down and them going up.
their first season in the then first  division coincided (in my memory) of some of the craziest things I ever saw at football games, most away fans, "Had a go" at the West End. Many of them succeeding.
Vivid Memories of, Chelsea (wow, what a riot) Utd, Wolves, etc running amok there.
Yet the town which had been rebuilt, the New cathedral, the Olympic sized swimming pool,  town to me seemed more modern and "with it " than when I went to see my Nan back in Brum.
I guess however that, class shines through in the long run.
Back to the thread,  I guess that many of us are worried about another Hairdresser taking over. Hope Hollis has a bit more about him than the Porno Twins when it comes to choosing the buyer.
Those two probably Knew the shit they were landing the Noses in and did not give a toss.

I lived in Coventry from 78-83 and thought it was a great city,
obviously it was a good time to be a Villa fan in Cov, but apart from that once you had mastered the ring road it was a piece of piss

never saw the Specials but did see  the Jam, and the nightlife was good if a bit violent at times

On Brummie accents, living in Ireland, if i ask for a pint of Budweiser  in the pub they give me a bottle, if i ask for a "point a bud" i get the drink i want.
People laugh when i say tuthbrush and tuthpaste, not too-thpaste, or yogut not yo-gurt.
Gansey is also slang for jumper but derives from the Gaelic geansai Arann - Arann jumper.

I still haven't come across anyone outside Birmingham who knows what the outdoor is.

It's tuthbrush. Another exclusively Birmingham phrase is 'crash your rocks' which I have never heard anywhere else.

Mrs S who is pure-bred Irish went to our daughter's secondary school one day and called her English teacher out over him continually berating her on the way she pronounced toothbrush.  Our lassie always called it a 'tuthbrush' and also called a tooth a 'tuth'.  He never bothered her again.

Incidentally, Mrs S calls it a toothbrush and always has.

Gansey isn't a Brummie term, I've heard that all over the UK, especially in Yorkshire.
