I hate Coventry, not because the city centre is shit, or the shitty ring road, or the crappy little football club whose fans are the worst I've come across.  It's because having played rugby all over the east and west midlands and a fair bit around Northants and Beds as well Coventry still stands as the only place where a team hasn't 'left it on the pitch'.  If It was a one off I'd think that it was down to a couple of idiots but it's happened 4-5 times at 3 different clubs, once they slashed the types on all of the cars, another time we came off the ptich to find all of our stuff in a pile outside the clubhouse having been stomped all over.  Worst of all we had a guy get sent off for stamping on someone and he went and got a big bunch of guys to come and 'do us' after the game, thankfully someone had spotted them all and called the police but being escorted off a pitch by the police while about 50-60 pissed up chavs throw beer bottles at you isn't pleasant.  Fucking horrible little hole full of nasty little scumbags, it's a stain on the the entire region as far as I'm concerned.

Rugby is a nasty violent game *winky*

I was also in Coventry today, for a conference at the Ricoh.  Whilst I don't appear to have the same prejudice as some on here, I can confirm that it is a bland, nondescript place with seemingly little to encourage visitors to return.  Even the university likes to pretend it is in Warwick when it's actually 11 miles away from the town.

I had the misfortune of two years of college in Coventry. I have only ever been back for sporting events since.

That said, they did have an excellent programme of bringing over students from Germany and Austria for a week or two. And them being put in the same digs as us. And they were girls. Dirty ones.

Flippin' heck paul, who did you play for?
Have to say that whenever I played over in Coventry there was always a punch up on the pitch, but never as bad as you had.
Did you ever play Matson, down in Gloucester?
Big council estate by the ski slope.
That was an experience

Matson! What a joyous place. And still struggles to vet in top 3 areas shit list in Gloucester.

I played for Hinkley and Old Yardleians (and outside the area Ashby and a club in Northampton).  The one with the police was a club in Canley but I can't remember what they were called.  The tyres thing they insisted wasn' to do with them but no one from the club had any problem, can't remember what the club were called though, played near the Ricoh at the time and I'm fairly certain they disbanded not long after, I know we didn't play the return game and all the points for their fixtures were wiped.  The last one was probably only borderline in Coventry at all, it's a place called Keresley a bit north of the city.

I went to Coventry to watch us play and some Cov fan spat direct in my face. Following season a group of Cov fans chased me and my mate for what seemed like a hundred miles under a never ending load of underpasses. Following season ( shortly after Dwight Yorke left) a very attractive young lady gave me a free bar of chocolate , on closer inspection, it was a promotion for Yorkie bars. I've never been back.

Last time I went to Cov I got lost in the one-way system at one in the morning and ended up with a £40 fine for driving in a bus lane. There was no bus anywhere in sight, or indeed any other traffic at all.

Coventry is shit, no wonder it's full of old biddies putting cats in bins

The city centre is horrendous, if improving of late with all the work, but it's like 1980s Birmingham except much worse.

However, having said that, there is also somethiing i like about Cov. I live relatively nearby and we occasionally go there, and I think over time, it has slowly started to hook me in some way.

It has some nice suburbs, and if they totally fucked that ring road off and injected some more life into the centre, I reckon it'd be a pretty interesting place.

Not a fan of the place at all and those that follow the team from there seem just as obsessed with us as those in Small Heath and Sandwell, but I think it has to be noted that the place was pretty much obliterated in the War.  I saw a programme about the Cathedral a few years ago that explained that it had some very interesting architecture before the Luftwaffe paid a few visits.

Check the Blose forums, they're desperately hoping Dr Xia turns into a Carson Yeung. Hopefully they'll be disappointed......They can only dream at having millions spent on their squad.....
