I hadn't seen this stuff from Xia before today, but I guess it had already appeared somewhere else?

No, palates fine, we boys used to play in the river (Tame? Rae? Cole?) beneath the Ackerdock at Billesley or maybe it was Warstock at the terminus of the 24 bus that forked right at Swanshurst Park.

Hi Brian I dunno if I have ever been in the other rivers but as kids in the early 70's, me and my many cousins used to play in Stechford Park a lot and used to wade in the River Cole to cool down after the Villa fans Superstar XI (I was always Charlie Aitken for some reason)  beat the motley Rest of the Midlands Select XI at footie    :)

then again I used to dangle my feet in the Ward End boating pond/lake, as I had family that lived just off Washwood Heath Rd.....

Not unless it is in the indoor market. I must admit I didn't observe it.

Nothing has happened in Coventry since 1987.  Nothing whatsoever.

I had a trip to Coventry to meet a girl, in my university days. Nothing happened.

I went to Coventry to watch us play and some Cov fan spat direct in my face. Following season a group of Cov fans chased me and my mate for what seemed like a hundred miles under a never ending load of underpasses. Following season ( shortly after Dwight Yorke left) a very attractive young lady gave me a free bar of chocolate , on closer inspection, it was a promotion for Yorkie bars. I've never been back.

Last time I went to Cov I got lost in the one-way system at one in the morning and ended up with a £40 fine for driving in a bus lane. There was no bus anywhere in sight, or indeed any other traffic at all.

Coventry is shit, no wonder it's full of old biddies putting cats in bins

The city centre is horrendous, if improving of late with all the work, but it's like 1980s Birmingham except much worse.

However, having said that, there is also somethiing i like about Cov. I live relatively nearby and we occasionally go there, and I think over time, it has slowly started to hook me in some way.

It has some nice suburbs, and if they totally fucked that ring road off and injected some more life into the centre, I reckon it'd be a pretty interesting place.

Highfield Road...the only ground I've ever been punched and kicked at shortly after Steve Staunton's late winner.Wankers.

my first match there was a night match  somewhere around 77/78 when Andy Gray scored with a trade mark diving header right in front of us lot behind the goal,

don't think it was filmed in those days, the locals were not amused, we used to have a great record at Highfield road

Blimey clearly following Villa has lowered your standards in a number of areas. I had the misfortune of having to go to Coventry 3 years ago on a visit back home and nothing has changed. Grim is how I would describe it. First time back there for me since Quinn's hat trick the fat ******.

I hate Coventry, not because the city centre is shit, or the shitty ring road, or the crappy little football club whose fans are the worst I've come across.  It's because having played rugby all over the east and west midlands and a fair bit around Northants and Beds as well Coventry still stands as the only place where a team hasn't 'left it on the pitch'.  If It was a one off I'd think that it was down to a couple of idiots but it's happened 4-5 times at 3 different clubs, once they slashed the types on all of the cars, another time we came off the ptich to find all of our stuff in a pile outside the clubhouse having been stomped all over.  Worst of all we had a guy get sent off for stamping on someone and he went and got a big bunch of guys to come and 'do us' after the game, thankfully someone had spotted them all and called the police but being escorted off a pitch by the police while about 50-60 pissed up chavs throw beer bottles at you isn't pleasant.  Fucking horrible little hole full of nasty little scumbags, it's a stain on the the entire region as far as I'm concerned.
