According to Tony Xia he's got a cheque from a recent business sale for £430M sitting in a bank account to pay out a small portion to Lerner. What's the problem?

are we presuming the picture is of a cheque made out to Mr X for 430 million, and he is actually showing it to the reporter, a cheque for that amount ?

I don't want to get all conspiracy theorist, but one of the hallmarks of a successful con is that scant evidence is accepted as total proof. Usually the dupe is the one that does the running, finding scraps of evidence to fill in huge and worrying gaps.

I'm not saying this is all an elaborate hoax, but none of the explanations fans are trying to spin - such as the Birds Nest/Olympic park thing, the way the Chinese do business, the intention to buy companies which were previously thought to be owned - sit very well with me. Maybe it is all a case of whoops, mind my language cultural difference, but the man saying 'yes, I'm super rich' and flashing a bankers' note which could have been knocked up by any forger for a bit of cash hasn't put my mind at rest.

Even my dinosaur of a boss started paying us by BACS after ditching paying us by cheque last year. So surely if she's moved away some multi-million pound cheque is bollocks!

Not quite, it's not a cheque, it's notice of a holding account so basically the money is in an escrow account waiting for the deal to finalise.

Was it definitely a cheque though or a copy of a statement showing the account balance?

Seems quite odd to me that he would show this...then again it came on the back of all the cries that he didn't have the money, so maybe he's just proving a point. We'll find out in a month or two I guess..(I still think he's being heavily backed by others).

The guy that wrote the Mail article, who tweets under the name Sporting Intelligence, is the avowed enemy of crooks and cheats in football, so I admit, when he alluded to the veracity of Xia's finances, I felt elated. But I still don't really think I've seen enough proof yet to be sure he's all he says he is.
