I am confused as to what is new and what isn't, but the below is dated today.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/05/23/questions-linger-over-new-chinese-owner-of-aston-villa/

That article is shit. They're still pedalling the ''false education'' narrative, this says otherwise

The story has left them behind over the weekend by the look of it...

I'm just grateful they're showing concern, unlike our local press that has been amusing itself with chinese takeaway jokes.

If you want to see how the Chinese are already investing in Birmingham take a walk around Selly Oak. The number of students from China has grown massively over the last few years. They have brought a lot of money into the area.

It was really popular with the Chinese when I was there in the early 90s.  Our halls of residence was easily a third Chinese, if not more.

Early 90s!  I had put you down as an old git like me.  When I was there in the 70s there were only a few Chinese when it was pie and chips at Mick's café in Dawlish Road or a pie and a pint at the Gun Barrels.

I'm 44, but feel about 84 if it helps.  I lived on Dawlish Road in my second and third years. The Gun Barrels was a bit of a quiet family pub, we mostly drank in The Brook or The OVT.  The Chamon being the Balti venue of choice.

This is the same Daily Mail that happily described him as a "Chinese Billionaire"?  The U.K. press quite happily said the same about Carson Yeung, even though that was obviously bullshit as well.

I think the only re-hashing going on is the stuff about how brilliant and rich this guy claims to be.   I see nothing to suggest he has the substance or capability to make a success of owning Aston Villa.  There are too many unanswered questions and inaccuracies, too much bullshit, and several extremely dodgy totally unrealistic pronouncements about his plans for the club.

Anyone who aims to make us one of the top clubs in the world either needs massive financial resources or one hell of a good plan.  He has neither.

And no I'm not doubting China.  I'm doubting the bona fides of this buyer and his ability to take Villa back to somewhere nearer the top.

Excellent. I know this sounds silly but after years out of the UK I actually miss Vesta, and Pot Noodle. Crazy I know.

I wa

Have just spent the weekend with some Irish friends and we're sharing memories of childhood in the 70s where the only meals we ever had that did not feature potatoes were Vesta curries.

not even a vindaloo, pat? Your mum wasn't doing it right...😄

Telegraph, mate. To be honest, given what came out from them on Saturday night as well, they seem to be operating on a 48hour time delay.

One thing that does concern me though which is again brought up in that Telegraph article, why doesn't he ever appear in any rich lists? E.g The Hurun report – 'A list of China’s most wealthy. The latest report has more than 1,700 people, with wealth ranging from $34.7bn (£23.7bn) to $310m (£214m).' Xia is nowhere to be seen on that.

No. I'm referring to reports in the Daily Mail which describe him as a billionaire.  As if it's fact.

Exactly.  We need to wake up and look at facts, and there don't seem to be many which support his ownership of Villa.

I'm not overly concerned about his personal wealth. Us being a well-directed, well-run part of a prosperous group of companies, I find that appealing. I'm not sure I'm ready for our fate to be subject to the whim and whimsy of one man again, however much money he may or may not have.

No that Daily Telegraph article is definitely a rehash. If there is anything new in there please point it out.

And Villa have been bought by the RECON group, not Tony Xia. Tony Xia is their main representative brokering the deal from what I can see. His personal wealth is not the vital issue because it is not his personal wealth that is being used. For better or worse this is not the same kind of buyout we had with Randy Lerner.

Too many people seem almost desperate to see this deal get done, because it means the end of Lerner.  I can understand that but the club, the FA and FL have to make sure this really stacks up.

Still not clear as to why his personal wealth is important HKV. So long as any money coming into the club is clean, why does it matter if it's his own money, or from elsewhere?
