Watch that Hollis interview again. Any amateur psychologist worth his salt will spot the bit where he scratches his cheek when explaining Dr X's many achievements. I think they edited out the bit where he strokes his chin and says "Ooh, Nessie."

That's more behavioural science than psychology. I'm an amateur behaviourist and can pick up and tells given by body language which the person is completely unaware of the non verbal communication little things like a scratch says. When watching the interview the cheek scratch was the thing that struck me more than the words.

I won't go into the various of head and neck scratches but Hollis wasn't sure 100% what he was saying was correct, but where the scratch was and the brevity showed he was inclined to believe Xia, or even that he wants to believe him.

Perhaps he was talking on the hoof and filling in some blanks without having full detailed knowledge.  In that situation, 'responsible for' could have been wrongly used instead of 'involved with'.  I would have thought that dealings with Xia have been moving very fast with many brief conversations about various parts of Xia's past.  No doubt some would have been embellished as is pretty much the standard when you are trying to sell yourself (interview for a new job - everybody pushes the boundaries a bit).  I do not imagine for one minute Hollis has a detailed dossier on Xia that he has been learning off by heart.

Hollis is a qualified professional and very good in his field.  I do not know how much training he has had in being a polished performer in front of a camera and being 'old school', I should imagine not much as his technical abilities would have meant that people accept him for what he does, not how he sounds.  He probably was making up some things as he went but out of not knowing the details, rather than trying to deceive.  With this in mind he was probably quite nervous in front of the camera, as many are when they are not properly briefed.  If he had been going into a court of law, he would have been better prepared.  I am not sure of the context of the interview, was it a comfortable chat about how things were going or was it supposed to be a full on grilling.

I am not saying the above is fact as I (like nearly everyone on here) are not a party to what is going on between the current and new owners.  I am only offering this as a possible reason.

It does not matter how much money a person has, as it is no guarantee you will spend it.  The proof will be in the manager he appoints and how much money is spent in the summer and beyond.

It is in Lerner / Hollis' best interests to sell us to someone with the right intentions and the right money.
Lerner stands to almost double his money if we are promoted, he will want to know that there is a good chance of that happening and that the new man has the money to pay up. And for all we know there are further success related clauses.
My only concern is that the success isn't achieved by bank loans etc.
Personally though, I think Xia / Recon is probably a front for Chinese government who can't be seen to be buying a football club, and that's why the trail on the money is so vague.

Lerner could have doubled his money by keeping us and investing the 40m himself, getting promoted and then selling us.

Lerner has already invested and lost a quarter of a billion pounds. He could probably quite easily plow in another £40m and fuck that up too. He's not fit to run a football club, he knows that himself I'd say.

Dont give him any ideas about staying! The deal with Dr X isnt done yet
