Hollis has a fiduciary duty as an officer of the club to act in its best interests.

If it goes anything like Lerner's first 5 years at the club we'll all be quite happy. He just needs to have a long-term plan to ensure it doesn't go pete tong after that, surrounding himself with proper football people in key roles and on the board is vital.

The interview with Hollis has put my mind at rest at the moment. Speaks very highly of our Tone and one thing you can say about Hollis in the short time we've known him - he doesn't suffer fools gladly!

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-steve-hollis-explains-11357357?

One concern I do have though is do you think King and Bernstein were trying to put Lerner off this deal and hence why they walked?

Who knows, but I can say something - that interview has made me feel a lot more optimistic.

Hopefully we'll see Mervyn King's reaction in the next few days. He's a Villa fan so I would imagine he'll have his thoughts and people will be interested to hear them.

This chap has his fingers in so many business pies.  A range of business much wider than RL.   He won't have time to be hands on.  So again it's down to the board at VP to make it work.  Let's hope it's the right board and not like the last where the unrestricted spending of TUM in a vacuum proved t be the start of our demise.

But what is the club (in this context) other than its shareholder(s)?

I'm guessing you're also a little disappointed it's not someone with ridiculous amounts of money like Ellison for example. I'm thinking if this is a guy with similar resources to Lerner but who actually takes a proper interest and knows how to run a business like this successful that's still got to be a big improvement. Let's face it, we were not going back up again with Lerner in charge so at least we should be able to look forward to being back in the top flight, and with a bit of luck we might become at least a top half club again.

Thing is to be successful in the Premier League now you don't necessarily need a mega rich owner. If you're in the Premier League the amount of money washing around means that just being owned by someone with any diligence means you should be alright.

To be honest, a competent Chief Executive and Director of Football would be a decent start.

Well no idea if Tony will revive our fortunes . Little is known about him and so that lends itself to people claiming he's a fraud. However the impression I get is that he his very ambitious and by god we've lacked ambition at villa park for far too long. At this moment in time I'm prepared to give him my full support and I sincerely hope that as a club we can help him achieve his ambitions.

If there were 3 bidders and this shyster was the best of the bunch who the fuck were the other two the Cosa Nostra and isis

What makes you think he's a shyster?  We're currently being run by a guy who was very high up at one of the biggest auditing companies in the world.  Do you honestly think that Hollis wouldn't spot the sort of obvious 'iffy' things that have been reported on here?

The issue is that we're struggling to find info so some people are filling the info black hole with comparisons to Carson Yeung and getting all nervous because of it.  I'm quite uncomfortable with some of it which seems to be that he's going to be shit purely because he's Chinese and operates like most Chinese businessmen.

I doubt he will even pass the FA's fit and proper test

There's no reason at all that he wouldn't pass it.

Unless you or your company have gone bankrupt, you've got a significant criminal conviction, you've been disbarred from a professional body or you're being officially investigated then you're going to pass.

Also if your name is Massimo Cellino.

No no. The whole set up is rotten.  A complete rebuild is required or it will be business as usual but with a different overseas owner.   The playing squad needs culling and that requires somebody with a great knowledge and experience of players contracts and how to off load.   A new manger that can inspire and a whole new relationship management with the fans.   The task is immense.

This is all a bit like us wanting to sign a top class striker..actually getting him and then thinking...shit, what's wrong with him then?
I guess we all want to be optimistic but we've had the crap kicked out of us for the last 5 years so many are cautious...

It's strange that so many people are making such an effort to be negative. First it's not going to happen, then it happens but it's still bad because we don't know anything, then we find out a bit more but they pick holes in what he's said... He speaks of ambition but the last guy was also ambitious so that makes a worrying parallel?!

You have to try really hard to be negative after Tony X's interview. I mean he said all the right things, including putting himself on the hook for a very specific number of new players.

I am not going to go negative this early, I have had too much of that. I am going to enjoy the dream of us strolling the Championship as we outspend everybody else.

I think that his tax evasion conviction means that I had him covered in my list ;)
