If he defrauded the Chinese state, why hasn't he been executed, considering its a Capital offence.

£30/40 m if added to any sales we make could be £50m+. How many Championship sides spend £50m+? Off the top of my head, none.
He ain't spent it yet !!

Just a response to someone saying £30m is not enough, it's a huge amount of money for Championship clubs. Bare in mind Brentfords entire turnover is around the same as Nzgobia's annual wage.

Some sad obsessed Nose has found evidence that he owned/lived at a residence in Boston for a time at the house owned by his Professor.

I think we should all just sit back and let the Small Heath Scrutineers do our digging. They've got our backs on this one.

Just like the only possible reason Villa supporters said that the Yeung takeover looked suspect was because we wanted it to be the case.

I don't recall Villa fans digging around the internet to unearth a scoop. We just hoped he'd be like the Kumars and he was.

They definitely did. There was plenty of it in the BCFC thread on this very forum.

It definitely does not look good. My heart fell when I read the 'played as a striker in college' and 'Villa fan for many years' lines. They seem cheap and crowd-pleasing, and not verifiable traits which demonstrate a capacity to run a successful sports club. And it's not at all surprising that Lerner could not offload the company competently - his judgement has proven to be poor. My hope was that somehow the strongest bidder would, by luck, be genuine. It seems not. My present hope is that this guy actually have actual money, is prepared to use it, and otherwise watches on.

It's all a little depressing that so many people since the news have committed themselves to finding out as much information in order to debunk the validity of this takeover. Or constantly taking little jabs at the Chinese. It's all a bit of shame that this is what it has come to and there's only sprinklings of positivity about what pretty much everyone wanted.

It wont take too long for us to see what kind of an owner he will be, if he is a liar and does not back up his pledge of spending, then we will be quickly going down again!

And then we can all blame Lerner for who he sold the club too!

Who cares about a couple of throwaway lines about being a striker and being a Villa fan?

Totally irrelevant.

On the positive side they must have shown they have the cash to buy the club.

I don't think people are aiming to debunk, its more genuine concern we have a decent, trustworthy and ambitious owner.
Lets hope the vetters do their job.

There's quite a bit of negativity on this thread, can't we just enjoy the good news for one day?

I am sure that the first payment to Mr Lerner will have hit his bank account by now!

We could become a real laughing stock if this all goes tits up, that's what worries me as much as anything.

I think the only 'remarkable similarity' is "Chinese man buys Birmingham club" and people are reading a lot into that.

Agreed. And I would point out that in the case of Small Heath the people selling that club are (in my view) appalling and were intent on doing no more that extracting the most value for themselves.

In the case of Villa, most people accept that Lerner means well but is clueless and/or has been poorly advised. Hollis would appear to have taken the lead on this sale - supported by Brian Little, Mervyn King and David Bernstein (until the latter two left, prompted by frustration with Lerner) - so it is premature to be too 'happy clappy' but I trust the intentions and integrity of those involved for Villa to mean, for me, that any comparison with what happened with Small Heath is totally irrelevant.

I hope the new owner understands the privilege he has and the responsibility that comes with that. Whether he does or not at this point, I suspect that he recognises the enormous potential that exists just by being competent - and if he manages that, it will be a welcome change of direction. Hence, I (cautiously) welcome this news. UTV
