"Xia said he will spend between 30 and 40 million pounds on new players for the upcoming season, and will announce a new club manager in the next two to three weeks."

Sorry but that's almost word for word what Carson Yeung said when he bought Blose.

Yep, that's how I remember their takeover as well. Not sure at all about this, very much hope to be proved wrong.

It does have worrying similarities... not least talk of being backed by the Chinese government.

Well, he did spend it. On shit, obviously, but still. I don't think he changed the manager though.

Anyway, would we feel any better if the new owner said 'we won't be announcing a new manager in the next few weeks'?

Was either deal backed by the Chinese government? Not as far as I know, but I hope ours actually is.

Doesn't all empty PR guff basically sound the same anyway? Ambition, blah, blah, blah, new signings, blah, blah, blah, investment, blah, blah, blah, new era. I think pretty much all new owners go with a bit of that. I'll hit the panic button when the Chinese equivalent of Shebby Singh gets announced as our new DOF.

Or that he wouldn't be spending any money?

The Chinese magnate who has agreed to buy English football club Aston Villa has said the final purchase price for the club would range between 75 million pounds and more than 100 million pounds, depending on how the club performs next season.

Recon Group chairman Xia Jiantong told Reuters that he will pay at the upper end of the price range if the club immediately returns to the English Premier League next season. A failure to gain promotion could see the purchase price as low as 75 million pounds, he said.

Maybe it's... no, it couldn't be, could it? The hairpiece? The snooker player disguise? The 'Dr' sobriquet? Has Carson been released from chokey already? I'm scared.

I think the only 'remarkable similarity' is "Chinese man buys Birmingham club" and people are reading a lot into that.

I have more faith in somebody with Xia's background who has studied at Harvard saying it than a bullshitter who turned out to be a criminal in Carson Yeung.

No, Percy, you must have more faith in our kind, considerate, hairy-toothed brethren from Bordesley. They care so deeply about us they only want to warn us of our impending doom, to keep us safe. The well-meaning, compassionate, knuckledragging twats.

If we see Tone rock up to his first game in a Yeung-esque fur coat I'll be worried.  Not least because it'll be August.

Agreed. Big difference from the so called self made hairdresser 'tycoon' sourced by those fine upstanding individuals Sullivan and Golds.

Has anyone found any evidence of the Harvard link?
